Masters In Nrsg Vs. Mba

Published

Hi! I am an emerg ER RN in Canada. I completed my BsCN one year ago this past December. I am contemplating on starting my masters degree in the near future. I am interested in working my way to a management position. I want to know if any one has advice on whether I should do a masters in nursing (administration route) or an MBA (healthcare route). I really want to make an informed choice. Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Thank you:idea:

I don't know about Canada but the States have a lot of schools that offer the MSN/MBA dual degree.

Maybe going that educational route will open more doors for you in the long run.

I haven't done a lot of research on it, so don't quote me, but I think that if you pursue the MSN/MBA dual degree program that you will end up with both degrees in less time/college credit hours than if you pursued both degrees independently.

Look into it.

With a dual program is it longer in length? Have you personally completed either program or both? Thanks for the tip.

The dual is probably the best route to go. Think it might be longer, but you would have to check with each institution.

I think the Masters in Nursing is more specific and in the coming years will be more useful. Alot of people are walking around with their MBA, not as many with their Masters in Nursing. That is only going to grow.

In the US alot of University Hospitals give free tuition when you are employed. When I was younger, thought that was too good to believe. But it is true. Sooo, I have no idea where you live. But, say you live in Toronto, you could work for University of Rochester and get free tuition for your Masters.
