Massasoit Community College Fall 2021

Published

Hello,

I wanted to create this thread for folks who have applied to Massasoit Community College’s Nursing program for the Fall 2021 semester. How are things going for everyone?

Current and former students, do you have any feedback on this program for prospective students?

Thank you!

My second choice is CCCC, May 1st is seat deposit deadline. If I don’t hear from Massasoit by then I’ll pay the deposit. How about you?

I was also accepted to MCPHS post-bacc BSN program. Deadline is April 9th! I guess I'll put down the deposit!? The MCPHS program is a lot of money but I'm pretty set on starting this fall!

It’s always a tough decision! I was also accepted into BayState but I can’t swing the cost. But I believe in better safe than sorry, I also want a definite fall start. Congratulations on MCPHS! Is it an accelerated program?

Thank you! Congrats to you as well for your acceptance to Bay State! This is college round 2 for me and I wish it were more affordable! The MCPHS program is a 16-month program for students who have a non-nursing bachelor's degree. They also have a 36 month Accelerated BSN program, which I think is open to both second degree seeking students and "traditional students" (I hate that term!). It's just so expensive-it's hard to justify going into $60k of debt if I get into MCC!!

That’s why Cape cod Community is my second option! Pretty much same cost as Massasoit. They also have a bridge program with Umass for RN-BSN that you’ll transition right into after you take the NCLEX which is a great option.

I literally work in the building directly across the street from MCPHS Boston. I too, was accepted to their program and put a $500 deposit down only to realize that it would be a mortgage to get a degree from there.  I am very thankful that I went to MCC instead and don't have $100k+ debt.  Which will also allow me to continue on to MSN or NP options.

MCPHS is kind of a factory (I hate to say that) but they over accept knowing some will not make it through.  I can't imagine paying that much, failing out, and still having to pay that back.  I liked them much better when they were a smaller and more specialized school.  Now that they are MCPHS "University".. they have acquired a lot more programs and are less attentive if that makes sense.

Thank you so much for your advice!! That makes sense-I also have a hard time justifying the amount of debt. Like you, I want to continue on to some type of Advanced Practice RN and am afraid of the debt holding me back from future goals. One of the things that MCPHS has going for it is the accelerated nature-I could finish a BSN in 16 months (again, with a large amount of debt!). I'm old (39!) so getting it done quickly is good but debt is not! ?

Do you think having the associate's degree then going RN-BSN held you back? I realize at first I probably won't be hirable at some of the Boston hospitals but does the RN-BSN help? I would love to work at Boston Children's one day!

Thank you so much for your insight!!

Just so you know.... you are not old!! I was your age when I graduated Massasoit! There were plenty of second career students in my class with an age range of 21-57.  Age is just a number ?

So... to answer you 100% honestly -  yes (in my situation) but... if you can secure a tech, nursing assistant, or CNA position after your first med/surg semester then you will be fine.  I had to work FT and go to MCC nights, so I didn't have the option of getting experience. I then immediately enrolled in RN-BSN after passing NCLEX ... so here I am with a BSN, limited experience and having the WORST time getting a job.  I even work for a University that has the affiliation with most of the teaching hospitals on the street. Been here 18 years and even with all the doctors that I know... it is so tough.  Most of my class did the opposite, they got jobs first and then went back for BSN - I wish I did that!

BCH is amazing and if that is what you want... go for it!!!
