MGH Accelerated BSN Spring 2016

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hello everyone!

Has anyone applied for the MGH Institute of Health Professionals ABSN for Spring 2016?

I thought I'd start a thread for applicants. :p

I believe the deadline is in July so I may be an early bird.

I appreciated their application the most - they really give their applicants a lot of opportunities to shine. Of all the schools I've applied to, they seemed to put the most effort into getting to know their applicants.

I've got my fingers crossed!

Hi @knh1006-

I am very happy with the program. In terms of clinical placements, it really can't be beat. My first semester I was working on a very busy neurology floor, and our clinical instructor put us to work right away! It was an amazing learning experience. The program can be intense-- It is a lot of work condensed in a short period of time, but when I think about where I was where I started and where I am now-- I've come SO far. If I'd say any drawbacks--- our class is a little too large. The class started as over 120 people, and they essentially split us unto 2 cohorts.... and I think sometimes they seemed unprepared for all the extra people. Class scheduling gets a little confusing and I think they had to scramble to find faculty at the beginning of last semester to accommodate everyone... some bugs that still need to be worked out :)

Thanks for the input!! I wanted to DM you but I cant :( since I am assuming you will be graduating soon, do you have any idea what the success for getting a job after in the boston area is? Also any more feedback about the courses and the experience it has been would be really helpful!! I got in but can not decide if it is worth the cost because I also got into Fairfield University which is only 46k

hello, everyone

my name is jessica, and i shall be matriculating to MGH next month!

i just wanted to ask you current students how it's going so far, and if you have any words of wisdom for a newbie?

Hello! I have a question about the application process. Did you take any of the prereq courses/anatomy or dev psych online?

Hi everyone,

I'm a rising senior and am looking into applying to the MGH accelerated BSN program in the upcoming year. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to make my application appear strong? I'm coming from a computer science background and will need to take the prereqs at another institution or online.

Does anyone have recommendations for where to take online courses/courese in general?

Also has anyon volunteered at mgh itself?

hello. current ABSN student. for the question about pre-reqs: i took all of mine in person. A&P & Stats at Boston College, where I did my original undergrad. Nutrition at UMass Boston. Microbiology & Human growth/development at Curry.

i do know of a few people in my cohort who took online pre-reqs through the IHP. It definitely won't hurt to have taken any pre-reqs that way.

about the application: the essay! i cannot stress that enough. your grades and transcript--that's all done. stuffy numbers. you can't change them now. however, the essay is your way to shine through, and since there's no interview involved, this really is a way for you to make yourself known. i worked so hard on my essay, answering the question of the role of the nurse.

Hi Lauren, i know this post is old but i came about it looking for advice on whether to attend MGH. What was the dropout rate in your cohort? Did you enjoy the program? How we your clinical experiences? i am having trouble deciding between MGH and GWU and just wanted some insite from former students about their experience.
