I have finally decided Acute Care NP is the route for me. I have narrowed down my school choices to Maryville or Walden. I was also looking at Simmons, since they find clinical sites for you within 2 hours of where you live, BUT the cost is very high (Over $1000 per credit), so I decided to not go that route.
Anyone at Walden or Maryville ACNP programs have feedback? How is the program? Do you feel prepared to practice? The programs sound very similar and the cost is within $4000. I also just found out I get 10% off Walden where I work.
With Maryville, I have heard they have a good solid program, good retention rate. However, it sounds like there is a ton of group work, and inconsistencies with professors not following their syllabus requirements when grading? I can see where group work is difficult with online programs. I have seen it as a negative on many online reviews about Maryville. Just curious about feed back from people who actually go to Maryville??
With Walden, they accept almost everyone, so have a poor retention rate. However, it sounds like their program is solid and consistent. There is apparently still some group work. Walden sounds pretty good overall, my main concern there may just be the school reputation. Will my future employer look down on me for going to Walden? OR does it not matter once you pass boards...etc
Thanks for any and all feedback!!

Hi, I wanted to get information on the program at Walden? Did you decide to go through with your choice and how is it, if so?

Those are your top two?
I was considering Walden but the constant bad reviews have me reconsidering. I have also heard good things about Walden. I know many reviews were about them not providing clinical preceptor, but so far every traditional university I look into does the exact same thing. (TWU, UTHHSC and UTA)

Hello there. I am halfway through the PMHNP program at Walden. It is true they do not assist at all with securing practicum sites, and I am having trouble finding one for the fall. Overall, I am happy with the quality of the curriculum. It is very challenging. The key is to not allow yourself to fall behind, at all. You will sink if you do. I'll update on if I cannot find a site. I have time, but so far everywhere I go they are already full with students.

Hi. I'm the Maryville program and it's the same here, no assistance with preceptor placement, you find your own. They have a list though of previously used preceptors so one can look to see if they can find someone on the list already. For those in Walden, do you have proctored exams where you're being watched as you take exam so it's closed book? We do here at MVU. I'm actually thinking of switching to Walden because MVU program is longer by 100 hours and the Advanced Health Assessment is a clinical requiring preceptor.

I would jump at the chance to do an additional 100 practicum hours. I’m sure you want to get going, but that experience is valuable.
