Marymount University 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi,

I'm applying to Marymount university's traditional BSN program for next spring (application is due this summer). I have around a 3.0 GPA and am taking the TEAS soon but I have great recommendations and volunteer work. I'm very nervous my GPA will hurt me and I won't get in. Can anyone tell me their stats and if they got in or not? I'm thinking if I don't get in I'll retake a couple classes and apply for the accelerated program so I can hopefully graduate around the same time. So any advice you guys can give me on admissions at Marymount would be amazing! Thank you!!

500 words is so difficult! I had to deal with a death two days before finals one semester and it severely hurt my GPA but from what I've heard they're pretty understanding if you show improvement and making dean's list definitely shows your abilities :)! I'm located in Woodbridge so depending on the time of classes going north on 95 could be decent or the worst :(. I've heard that there are blocks of schedules and you get to put in your preference and you may get it or you may not. I've looked at apartments and I just don't think I can swing an apartment as I'm also still paying student loans from my undergrad:/. I'm going the accelerated route. I'm so glad someone else applying posted! It really helps lol.

I'm so sorry about the death before your finals Mino32, that's horrible :-( I'm sure they'll understand though, especially because it wasn't just that you were sick or something. It's good to know about the block thing, I was wondering how they were gonna do scheduling. How did you find that out?? And yeah the apartments are so crazy expensive, I told my parents I'm gonna have to sell a kidney to pay for rent lol. At least you're accelerated so you'll be done much faster than I will!

I talked to one of the counselors at the undergrad office who also is a liason (or something along that line) for the nursing program, and he recommended that I elaborate why my first semster was not good etc. and that the review board would take it into consideration when they're reading apps. They like when you address a problem so it helps them better understand your application. So hopefully it helps! I also looked at some places in Arlington too Mino32, but everything is way out of my range for a 1 bedroom, so if i get accepted, i may see how the first semester goes and then maybe rent a basement or find someone to sublease with. I agree, 500 words was not enough! lol I wrote about 700 words and then my boyfriend had to help me cut it down to 500.. hopefully we all get in! Has the submission date for accelerated started yet?

I have a friend of a friend who is actually in the accelerated program! This is her last semester. I was able to meet with her briefly and talk about the personal statement and she let me know about the block schedule and how tough the workload is lol. She really enjoys the program though! She said the rotations were a highlight and Marymount seemed flexible in what you could do. I'm excited for the accelerated but super nervous! I graduated though like 5 years ago though so I'm looking forward to this hopefully being the last push. I can't even imagine being able to afford that rent  while taking classes. I think I"m just going to have to subscribe to audible or something if I get in and get really comfortable with my car lol. The submission date for the accelerated was the same for the traditional :). I keep thinking we might hear back this week!! But I'll be sitting by the mailbox regardless.

Oh that's awesome!! It must be so nice to have someone to talk to that has actually gone through (almost) the whole program. and I have that feeling too!! The last time I talked to them they told me the 29th at the latest so there's a good chance we'll hear back this week. I'm waiting by my mailbox too lol every day when it doesn't come I'm like NOOOO hahaha. I'm so nervous/anxious/excited/everything!! Did you guys apply anywhere else? Oh and Mino32 audible is bomb but I've recently started listening to podcasts in traffic and it's awesome!! One of my classes this semester ends at 6:15 in Reston so it takes me a good hour to get home and listening to fun podcasts makes it so much easier/more enjoyable. So I would def recommend it :-)

Thats great you were able to get some insights from your friend! I'm trying to stay busy with my current classes so i'm not anxious while waiting to hear back but its so difficult! So nerve wrecking!! I did not apply anywhere else, so i'm putting all my eggs into one basket. Did you bharvey?

No I didn't either! I didn't really want to go anywhere else. I have a few friends who are currently in the nursing program at shenandoah and love it but I just liked Marymount better for some reason. I loooove Arlington too and I think I eventually want to work at Children's so being so close to it (and many other hospitals) is gonna be awesome. So ya if I don't get in I'm just gonna have to reapply and hope for the best again :-) Let's hope we all get in though!! Nnh7 where are you taking classes right now? I'm at nova and trying to distract myself with my classes too but it's not working very well lol

Hey guys!! I just got home from class, checked my mail and my acceptance letter was there!! I had no idea it was gonna come so soon!! I'm so so so excited!!! Anyways If I got mine today I'm sure you guys will get your letters tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. Just wanted to let you know :-)

I just got my acceptance in the mail yesterday. The letter was postmarked September 15th, if that's helpful. I already live in Alexandria near a metro stop and work in Arlington not too far from Marymount. If you guys are moving to the area, feel free to ask me any questions!

I got my acceptance letter yesterday!!! I'm so excited because I did not apply anywhere else either!^_^ I'm so glad we all got in!! I'm also thinking of going in pediatrics bharveyy. The individual whose currently in the program says they have a great pediatrics rotation. Definitely looking forward to it! An hour in traffic is so rough! I've never actually listened to a podcast but that's an excellent idea:)-do you have any you'd recommend?

Yay guys that's so awesome, congratulations!! I'm so excited for all of us! Pamirzadeh I am probably moving to Arlington so any recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated! I've looked at a couple buildings but I really have no idea where to live lol. And Mino32 I'm so happy to hear Marymount has a great pediatric rotation, that's definitely what I wanna do so that's reassuring! And if you go on the podcast app it'll give you a list of all the popular ones or you can search by genre. I listen to a couple "fun" ones like Jenna & Julien (from youtube), Kaitlyn Bristowe's (the bachelorette) and some more interesting ones like TED talks. I've also heard S town is amazing if you want more of a fictional story, Ellen Degeneres talked about it on her show. And they're all free!!

HI, All I know i'm kind of late but to those who applied and received acceptance letter was it for the accelerated or traditional program? I'm still waiting by my mailbox (in Stafford...I won't be moving either) to hear back for the traditional program. Does someone mind elaborating a bit on the block schedule?
