Thinking about a career in nursing

U.S.A. Maryland

I'm 27 years old and just quit my deadend job. I have a small child and husband. He is still working and we are getting ends meat at best. I want to start a career in nursing but I'm not sure if I want to go to a vocational school like Everest or should I go to a 4 year school. I really want to start working in the nursing field ASAP!!! As of now I want to work in a NICU, but I've heard that new grads don't get that kind of position. Is this true? I'm willing to work with adults, but that's not my cup of tea. Living in the DC metro area does it matter if I go to school in DC, MD, or VA. Like if I go to school in MD does that mean that I should find a job in MD? What schools have great programs? Totally confused what should I do?

If you are trying to begin your nursing career sooner rather than later you should consider an ADN program. These programs can be a more economical way of getting your degree if you live in state. Of course everyone's situatuion is different. Most community colleges have articulation agreements with state schools that have BSN programs so that you can further your education and obtain your BSN. I'm not sure where you live but MD and VA both have community colleges that offer ADN programs. I'm not sure about UDC. Start with researching area schools to learn what there requirements are for their RN programs and go from there.
