When I first came out of school I had to work several miles away from my home to get someone to offer me a good offer. I found that job by searching the internet and typing in new grad LPN. I know longterm care facilities usually hire, also check addiction facilities, psych Sheppard Pratt (not sure if they hire new grads), there is a facility in Catonsville ran by the State that has hired a new grad friend before. Most importanly keep checking, the offer will come. How far from home are you willing to travel?

    Good Luck:spin:

Stop calling! LTC facilities utilize LPNs and if they have already told you they need nurses I'd put on a nice business suit, grab your resume, references from your professors and go in for a face to face. They need nurses and you are one! I know things have slowed down a bit but there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to find a job in LTC in this or the DC area. Good luck and don't give up your job is out there.

hey, jules I had a little luck - I got hired as a cna @ 10.00 hr. that's a bummer however as a temp position for a staffing agency - however they are working on getting me in one of their facility full - time as a LPN - when I don't know I just have to take that little money right now - the pay makes me feel like a loser

    see ya later

Congratulations, and I hope they come through for you very soon and get you on board as a LPN. Thank you for writing back and I applaud you for doing what you have to do to keep some money coming in. Don't feel like a loser, to me a loser would sit on the sofa feeling sorry for themself while the bills piled up. You are being proactive, adding to your experience and contacts in the field. I bet the facility where they send you snatches you up when they see how determined you are. Please keep us posted. Hugs, Jules

You know I almost sometimes feel as if the field is saturated with LPN's. I all to often speak with LPN's, working in facilities whom are coming far from home. I am in the Annapolis area and have met nurses coming from Washington DC and Virgina whom come here to work. I have found it had to find work here at times, that is why I have looked and know you may have to broaden your search at least as a new grad. After you get some experience you may have better luck finding work close to home. Please feel free to PM me for info on homecare jobs that I worked for as a new grad.

As far as your new job, enjoy it and be sure to take time to meet the nurse manager and let her know of your desire to be on staff as a nurse. One job started by offering me PRN hours which once I got my foot in the door I then was offered more hours and eventualy a full-time position after I worked a few shifts.
