Maryland Nursing Schools

Published

Hi Everyone! I'm a new member of the site, but I've been checking the message boards for a few months now. I am a career-changer (marketing) who wants to go into nursing. I have a bachelor's and a master's in liberal arts fields - both very helpful for nursing school, ha!

I want to go to school in MD to save money - I'm open to ASN or BSN programs, but I have a 3.3 undergrad GPA. Is that even in the range of applying to UMD? I'm leaning toward the BSN over the CNL because I want to be an NP and will just need more master's classes. Does UMD care about work experience/extracurricular activities? Is it possible to be accepted without hospital volunteer work?

I am also looking into CCBC and HCC, but I've heard they are both bursting at the seams - CCBC admissions told me they get 300-400 applicants for 72 seats. Oomph.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks so much!

P.S. Did anyone else have trouble getting through A&P? I'm in week three of A&P I now, and it's really intense.

Hello, I'm also applying to some of the schools you mentioned. I don't really have any concrete answers for you though hah! Im sure youve read, but your science gpa is more important than your other gpas. 3.3 isn't fantastic, but its not shabby. Its solid I would say. Furthermore, your master's degree is also a plus I would think.

Where are you taking your A&P class? I just started mine.
