  1. Nothing wrong with being an adult student. I'm 30 and changing careers. Good luck! :)
  2. Hi Future RNs, I'm SO excited. I've been slowly taking my pre-reqs one at a time for three years, and I cannot wait to get out of marketing and into nursing. :) Cheers, LadyL
  3. I got my acceptance email today as well! Had to read it out loud to believe it! I had a 3.3 undergrad several years ago, a 3.6 for my master's, 3.6 for pre-reqs, 9+ years of work experience in an unrelated field, a CNA course, and various volunteer experience including mentoring and event planning for charity races. Good luck to everyone!
  4. I totally understand where you are coming from. You can do it. Don't let your insecurities get in the way. If you want this, you just have to keep your eye on the prize. After 7 years in communications, I started the process of changing careers to nursing and taking pre-reqs (I have no science whatsoever) in 2009. I started out strong, but then got a D in chemistry because I was so anxious and convinced I couldn't do it. I gave up at that point, but still wasn't happy in my current career. I finally made the decision to retake chem and finish this process about 6 months ago. I was terrified that failing a science would be a mark of death of my transcript. But I'm going to give it my all. I even quit my job to focus on school and took a CNA course. Now I'm broke but kicking butt in school and keeping my head up. Applying for ABSN programs for next year. YOU CAN DO IT!
  5. I am in the process of taking pre-reqs before applying to an ABSN program, and I took a CNA course in December. My plan was to work as a CNA while I finish up classes before starting an ABSN in spring or summer 2013. My dilema - I can't find a CNA position in the NYC-metro area to save my life. In fact, there don't seem to be too many positions available when I search online. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm also open to taking another health-related position. I left my full-time marketing position in December to focuses on classes. I have 1 more course to take and another year until school would start (I need a job badly!). Help!
  6. Hi All, I'm a career-changer applying for ABSN programs for 2010. I made the mistake of taking AP2 in the summer, and ended up with a C+. (I got an A- in AP1 that spring, so I'm really upset.) Either way, it's done, so I'm trying to figure out what to do from here. I know this rules me out of several programs, since it explicitly states on their websites that they want a B or better in the sciences. I also know that I'm up against 4.0 GPAs for the prereqs and students with healthcare-related experience. I have a 3.3 undergrad GPA and a 3.5 master's GPA, and a year of volunteering as a mentor. I'm feeling really discouraged right now. I still have Chem and Micro to take in the fall and spring respectively, so all schools will see on my prereqs is my A- and my C+ for the sciences (a mediocre 3.0). Is a C+ the kiss of death? What would you do? Any advice is appreciated. I'm bummed. L
  7. My A&P I class started January 29. We're using the Tortura book. I love to be a part of an online study group. How do we do that? We only have a midterm, a final, and the lab grade (no write-ups). That makes me nervous, because I'm bad at tests!
  8. Hi Everyone! I'm a new member of the site, but I've been checking the message boards for a few months now. I am a career-changer (marketing) who wants to go into nursing. I have a bachelor's and a master's in liberal arts fields - both very helpful for nursing school, ha! I want to go to school in MD to save money - I'm open to ASN or BSN programs, but I have a 3.3 undergrad GPA. Is that even in the range of applying to UMD? I'm leaning toward the BSN over the CNL because I want to be an NP and will just need more master's classes. Does UMD care about work experience/extracurricular activities? Is it possible to be accepted without hospital volunteer work? I am also looking into CCBC and HCC, but I've heard they are both bursting at the seams - CCBC admissions told me they get 300-400 applicants for 72 seats. Oomph. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks so much! P.S. Did anyone else have trouble getting through A&P? I'm in week three of A&P I now, and it's really intense.
