Marquette Direct Entry MSN 2012

Published

Hi! Any Marquette hopefuls this app. cycle? I'm a little ahead of the game here but am too excited not to be =0) I'm applying to the CNM track!

After careful consideration I decided I will be living close on campus for the first year as the commute might otherwise be a nightmare lol.

seltsi--did you by chance talk to a lady about the apartments on 15th st? You said you were from Minneapolis...the landlord I was talking to said there was a girl from Minneap that was looking at the apartments to and she was going to be in the DE MSN program too!!! lol just curious!!!

to others fyi--I would not live farther west than 16th St!!!!!!

Hi vchri481, I was looking at an apartment on 17th behind the rec center with Schulhof Properties, which owns a bunch of campus apartment buildings, so it probably is the same woman! I tried to find reviews of the building online, but there was nothing. I did find a very unflattering review of Schulhof's management style on Yelp however, so I don't think I'll sign a lease with them. I've lived in NYC before and have learned to be wary of signing year-long leases before seeing a place, so I think what I will do is just get a summer sublet and find a permanent place once I get to know the area better. I don't think I'll have the time to go do a thorough scouting of campus buildings before the May start date.

Going with what vchri481 said, that 2009 thread I posted earlier about crime/safety for the Marquette campus said don't venture below 94 East to the south, beyond 25th to the west, or State Street to the north, but anywhere east is fine (will require a commute though). Since it's been 3 years since that thread was posted, I guess the update is don't go past 16th to the west. :p

Seltsi--just rented a room for the year here...they are really nice and literally a half block back from the union (which is right across the street from our nursing building) ...the landlord is a great lady too....if you need a place...give her a ring/email!!

Spacious unit on Marquette Campus

Nice vchri481, thanks for sharing! This is a different real estate company I believe. Glad you have housing all figured out! I have to get all my physical and health records all squared away by May.

For those of you accepted, your deposits are due today right? With the exception of one of you who got a later due date for whatever reason?!

Yes, the deposits are due today.

...excited for round two...

Me too! Has anyone found anything out in terms of when round 2 acceptances are going out? Or how many denials have been sent overall so far?

I'm sure round two will go out this week or next. I was told it would be approximately three weeks and that was on the 15th. The first round had 30 denials. I can only speculate that the second round of denials was similar in size. Good luck!! :)

Ahhh! I just opened my inbox and got all excited because I saw an email from the Marquette Graduate School...and sadly it was only an invitation to an open house. Whyy must you toy with me Marquette?! Not funny!! Haha

Lol! Ohhhh the drama and suspense!! :)

"By 2015 all new NPs will need to be trained at the doctorate level as a Doctor of Nursing Practice."

..I'm sure a lot of you have heard about this...Kind of a silly question--but do you think all of us in this 2012 DE MSN program will make that cut off to be NPs without doctorates?

There have been a bunch of threads on this topic, and lots of articles online about it. Here is the link to one: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/what-will-happened-485555-page2.html.

Of course, everything is speculative. Basically, it seems that we will be grandfathered in IF it happens, but it also seems that nobody believes it will really happen. They have been trying to change the basic RN to a BSN instead of a 2 year degree for a while, and that hasn't happened either.
