marking NG tubes

Hey all, I am currently doing research about marking NG tubes. Once the tube's placement has been verified by x-ray, do any of you mark the NG tube with a sharpie? Does the sharpie mark stay indefinitely on the tube? If not, can you recommend a different type of pen to mark the NG tube with?

THANKS !!!!!

I was taught to use tape to mark the spot and then tape that strip of tape to their nose.

Also, when verifying placement of NG tube, what do you all think in regards to measuring the tube? One practice says to measure from the patients nares to the end of the tube in cm's to verify the tube is not migrating. Another, says to use the measurements on the NG tube in order to measure the depth in cm's the tube has entered the patient's body.

THANKS !!!

At my job we always used to measurements on the NG tube! I think it is more accurate. Plus not everyone knows how to measure in cm accurately lol :D
