im thinking of going to Maric College or Concorde in San Diego for their LVN program. I see this as my most reasonable atlernative to going to a community college,b/c i feel like im getting nowhere on the waiting list. Has anyone attended either Concorde or Maric? Any advice would be helpful

I attended a Southern California LVN program that was similar to Concorde in several respects. It was expensive, private, operated like a business, and lacked the regional accreditation that permits the transfer of credits to reputable community colleges and universities. I do not regret my decision, although $20,000 to $30,000 is a whole lot of money to spend on licensure that will result in less money than the RN license. Good luck!

I was in the same position as you....wondering what to do. I just started Maric's RN program and am very happy with my decision. It is expensive, I think it's worth it.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would stick to an accredited program. That seems like alot of money to spend and your options are limited. I took a Maric program years ago and nothing transfered and I started from scratch. Hang in there and look at your options at the university level or with National (expensive but at least accredited).

I guess it would also depend on what your goals were. If you're planning to go into nursing management and get your BSN, it's probably better to go to another school. If your main goal is to be trained and working in the field, then Maric is an excellent choice. You will be finished & getting actual experience (not to mention a paycheck);) far sooner than someone else who has decided to wait the community college route.

My friend attended Concorde, survived, passed the LVN boards with no problem & really knows her stuff.

Another option is the Grossmont Health Occupations Center in Santee. It is an LVN program that is publically funded and only costs the student $2,500 including text books. Also, it is a school that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges so you can go to Grossmont or City College and do the LVN-RN step up program.

Maric is nice tho. if you want to go the RN route real quick. But for LVN I would go to GHOC in Santee and save money. Their program is highly thought of too.
