  1. I'm almost finished with the ADN program at Kaplan in San Diego. I think it's a good program, but you have to be focused and you have to be dedicated to the program. It's extremely time consuming....but all nursing programs are. In the beginning of the program many students work, but once you get finished with your first semester.....most have to stop working in order to keep up. There are many different opinions about the quality of the program. I've found that most of the instructors and most of the students are really good. The program is intense but it has to be to get students out and able to pass NCLEX. The best advice I can give is to work with one admissions rep and to go to the same person for information and questions. The program is fast paced, so it works best for people who like that type of learning and are able to stay focused and organized. Good luck in your decision!
  2. Hi, I'm attending Maric right now. I don't think there is anyway you will be able to keep your current work schedule. The pace is very accelerated. Most people don't have jobs, but the ones I know are working like once a wk or even once a month! (I mean for the nursing portion of the program, not all the pre-req's). I know it's scary to change your finances. Also as far as the schedule goes, it changes all the time. I think it's part of their "flexiblity" thing. It can be frustrating, but you get used to it. Congratulations and Good Luck!
  3. Maric is expensive, but similar to other private programs. The cost depends on how many classes you're taking. You stated that you will have all of your prereqs done by the time you enter, so the cost would be about $30k or less I think. Anyone in the admissions dept could give you detailed info. The length of the program also depends on how many classes you're taking. The actual "nursing tract" portion of the program is 15months. It's very accelerated and requires a huge committment of time. I've heard different things about a waiting list. I don't think there is a list but you may have to wait until a new "tract" begins. Of course this is after you have been accepted. You definitely need to have previous health experience, but that is the easiest part. I know lots of people became a CNA for a couple months prior to enrolling into the nursing program, just so they were able to satisfy that requirement. You can take a free CNA course through any ROP program. I'm sorry I don't have specific answers on how much the program costs, but it really does depend on how many classes you need to complete at the school. I hope this info helps you.
  4. It isn't even an option an my school. There is no way you would understand what's going on in A&P II without completing A&P 1 first.
  5. Hi, I don't know what part of CA you're in but I'm in San Diego and attend Maric College. Im in the RN program and am very happy with it. All the community colleges around here have the same 2yr+ wait list. Maric is expensive but it's an option if you want to get into the field in about 2 years. Good luck!
  6. I'm now in my 3rd quarter in the RN program at Maric in SD. I'm very happy with my decision. I know it's hard to read all the opinions re: Maric. It's been great for me so far. The program is very accelerated, you have to be willing to put in the time, but it's worth it. Good luck with your decision. If you have any specific questions just ask!
  7. I agree with the other posts. The first thing you should do is fill out the FASFA and speak to your financial aid advisor at school. I am also 34 and needed aid. I didn't qualify for any grants, but I did get a Stafford loan. My advisor also told me I will qualify for a Pell grant in Jan. Good luck to you!

Does anyone have an opinion on this company? Thanks in advance.
  9. I just started Bio this quarter. Our class has a lot of chemistry and organic chemistry in it. I can honestly say that it was very difficult at first. I am just now starting to feel a tiny bit more comfortable in class. I don't know if it's because I've been out of school for about 10 years or what, but this class was just killing me! Everyone keeps telling me it's going to get easier......I'm choosing to believe them!
  10. Am I the only one that feels if people are really concerned or worried about passing a DRUG test, then maybe they're going into the wrong field? I understand that many people take prescribed medication, but that doesn't seem to be what's making people nervous. I know I certainly wouldn't want a nurse who is "using" (even on their days off) to be responsible for taking care of my loved ones!
  11. I'm 34 and just started nursing school. I'll graduate and pass the boards in November of 09! I figured Nov 09 was still coming either way, and why should'nt I finally start something that I have been considering for years? My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!
  12. I guess it would also depend on what your goals were. If you're planning to go into nursing management and get your BSN, it's probably better to go to another school. If your main goal is to be trained and working in the field, then Maric is an excellent choice. You will be finished & getting actual experience (not to mention a paycheck) far sooner than someone else who has decided to wait the community college route.
  13. I was in the same position as you....wondering what to do. I just started Maric's RN program and am very happy with my decision. It is expensive, I think it's worth it. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  14. I just wanted to say Congratulations on your new baby and wish you the best on your difficult decision....you'll make the right choice. It's nice to be able to come here for information and SUPPORT. Even if sometimes it's lacking. Best of luck to you! :)
