You guys have it easy - 178 positions and over 200 applicants. At my school it's about 20 spots with over 100 applicants.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I just realized that it will be a little different between the BSN and ADN. If I finished all my BSN pre-requisites and applied I'm pretty sure I would get in on the first try. Since I'm applying at my local CC ADN program, it's much more competition. I haven't finished every single one of my pre-reqs either. I'd rather only take the nursing classes once I get in but to get my financial aid I need to be full time. So I will have to take extra classes while in nursing school regardless.

Hopefully I will get accepted into the spring semester....

I have completed all my prerequisites for the BSN program and was rejected. I guess that is how it goes at some university. I hope to be in for fall or spring or else I am going to be very depressed.

I got in on first try, but it was two and a half years ago and I think in these two years many things have changed in economics and this has changed how easy it is to get in schools, especially nursing schools.

because most other professionals are worried about losing their jobs or have lost them, or as new grads can not seem to find work (rice graduates in houston are working manual labor to support themselves while the rejection slips pile up), more people are looking to nursing as way to earn a living. this, coupled with the budget cuts in schools, including nursing schools, makes for a more difficult entrance process.

your earning of an A in A&P shows how determined you are to do well and i believe youll have an excellent chance of entering school once all of your prereqs are filled. the best thing you can do is not stress about when you will get in, but rather, if youre going to stress about anything at all, stress about your next exam and study study study!

Applied to one. Was initially rejected sight unseen due to my math scores. Wrote a letter mentioning that I didn't feel that represented me either as a nurse or a person, that I wanted to be a nurse, that I wanted to go to their school and wanted an interview so I could be rejected in person as I wasn't going to let one score define me...They liked the sassiness, granted an interview, rejected the rejection, accepted me and I made the graduation speech three years later...Still can't believe I did that sometimes but glad I had the gall to try...Just never give up on your goals. I made them see me as a person and not a test result..

that is awesome! i hope that i can be as gutsy as that if i have problems later on getting into a program i want. kudos

Actually.. I go to the school she is talking about. I heard it is 30% of the applicants that get it. I was told there were 100 spots and 300 applied... It may have changed though.. this was a year ago..

All schools are different!!! I got in my first try but I don't know if I would have gotten in my first try at a school that had say.. a 10% acceptance rate. Our school goes by GPA to get in so I made sure my grades were up there. I know everyone says "dont worry about grades," but you need them to get into the program... YOU GO GIRL with that A in A&P!! Keep it up!

I wish my school based on GPA - then I would definitely of gotten accepted since I have a 4.0. Keeping my grades up is very important to me. It will be useful since I plan on going to graduate school and I'm also pratically guaranteed my school's tuition waiver scholarship since it is based on GPA.

That is awesome - how you had the courage to face them like that.

Since my school bases selection strictly on who has the highest points (no interviews), I don't think it would work with them.

Another thought on this particular school is WHERE YOU get placed. Im specific in my needs for where to get placed. I can only be in the city I live in. SO, they only accept 8 placements here. I honestly dont know out of those 200-300 (or how ever many) asked to be placed here. One guy who just started lower Div moved over from Washington. I know SOOO many students who wanted to place here, and got denied. Thats why I get so nerved up. You honestly dont know how many people covet those 8 positions.

Tammy: There was 300 applicants last year? HOLY SMOKES... :eek:

I know each year I am in school I hear, and meet, more and more students going into nursing.

Just keep your GRADES up. no matter what they might claim, it DOES make a difference.

That is what I heard. I can't remember where I got that information though! I will find out and get back to you!

Yeah I bet it is hard to get placement in Kalispell with only 8 slots.... I heard Great Falls is easier to get placement in. I sent in a letter anyway requesting Great Falls since I couldnt take a chance of getting placement somewhere else... People are probably laughing at us talking about 300 applicants being a lot.. but montana is so small! :)
