Kiaora from NZ: male nursing student

Nursing Students Male Students

Published

Hi guys! Ive just found this awesome site and cant believe just how many other male nurses there are here :p

In my year there are eight guys in total, with just over one hundred and twenty girls, so ive been alittle bit isolated in class.

Bit about me, im 25 years old, and nursing is my first career. im currently about to start my second year [in New Zealand nursing is a three year degree].

Class starts back tomorrow after the summer holidays and i cant wait to get back amongst it and see all my friends again.

I love Nursing, and am stoked to now know that there are plenty of other guys around the world that are the same!

Hello from New Zealand

Another Kiwi nursign student here.

Just started semester one the past week.

It was a bit overwhelming for me too, theres maybe 10-15 guys in my class of over 180.

Allthough that's likely to drop quite significantly as the year progresses.

Thats a pretty good number of guys for nursing school though ChrisNZ! Where abouts are you studying in New Zealand btw?

I really enjoyed first year, it was good fun, but also very interesting. You should be fine, dont worry about being the odd one out [as a guy] before you know it you will be good friends with all your female class mates and things wont be as strange anymore. I almost consider my class mates to be sisters, they're good fun.

Not sure if numbers will drop off though mate, in my first year we hardly lost anyone, perhapse between 1-4 people left that i know of ended up leaving.

keep me informed mate, if you have any questions and stuff flick me a PM and ill try and get back to you when i have time. :)

I'm studying at Wintec, in general the class numbers tend to roughly halve from the originally starting number to graduation.

But I think with all the economic hoo-haa alot more people are staying on/better quality applicants. I had applied and been accepted to Massey in Wellington. But I wanted to stay close to home because it was only six months ago that I finished chemo and am still in the two year window when relapse is most likely.

I allready know about 20 or so people in the program. So weird having such a large group! Just don't know any of the guys yet. I had to do a foundation course last year as I spent my year thirteen year abroad and missed out on NCEA level 2 entrance by ONE merit/excellence credit! That'll teach me for being a lazy sod when I was younger!

Kia Ora from Texas! I used to live in Southland NZ, and my oldest son still does. Im a new nursing student myself about to start BSN program.

Hi,

I'm a student doing first year nursing at Massey in Wellington. It's exciting stuff. I'm one of four out of 108.

Cheers,

malestunurse

I'm not a guy but doesn't allnurses make the world a heck of a lot smaller. I used to study Information Technology at Wintec back in the 90's (I think they still just called it WIT) I used to commute in from Te Aroha where my parents owned a dairy.

Anyways I will give you the secret to getting along with your female cohort in exchange for Burger Rings. All the junkfood in states yet no Burger Rings :(
