Any encouraging advice welcomed

Nursing Students Male Students

I am a recent business graduate. I wanted to do nursing but didn't pass the entrance exam years ago, so I chose another field. I am back at wanting to be a nurse. I have applied at Baptist College Of Health Sciences.I am now 34 years old and a single parent of 3. I really want to accomplish being a nurse. All encouraging advice welcomed please. I work @ a hospital St Jude,but I don't feel comfortable asking the nurses that I work with.

just do it, don't give up, nursing school isn't hard, it's just time consuming.

Good luck. Age is no issue, though having to work around taking care of your three kids may make it a bit more interesting, but it's certainly within your reach. Best advice I can give is to plan out your path as much as you can, and then be ready to go to a plan B.

Just curious why you are not comfortable with talking to the nurses you work with? Are they down on the idea of you becoming one of them? In any event, if you set your mind to it, you will get there, just be flexible.

I would definitely recommend pursuing nursing. Not because you've always wanted to but because your always to ask yourself, "what if" if you don't. As he said, it is not that difficult, it is simply very time consuming. Start saving now and planning the future. Truly writing it down on paper and listing out the next few years after you get accepted.

Don't be apprehensive about asking the nurses you work with. From my experience, people in the health care industry like to talk about their occupation with aspiring students. They either like to share the knowledge, or like to show off that they know it. Either way, you will get something out of it. Plus, your have a first hand opportunity to observe what the profession is really about.

All i can say is: GO FOR IT

Well a lot of the nurses don't seem approachable. I always speak to people even if I don't know them it's just my up bringing and they just look and walk away.

Congrats on your decision! I too went back to school in my 30's. Ok.. here is my advice. I did not work and had no children. Nursing school TOOK ALL... I mean ALL of my time. I LIVED in my home office. My husband hardly ever saw me. Now mind you, I did a BSN program, so more writing and research here and thus, more time. I went to school and clinicals and studied on average 4 to 6 hours every night and on weekends. IT WAS THE HARDEST endeavor I have ever undertaken. Do not take this journey lightly. It demands a tremendous dedication on your part. I am not trying to discourage you, just being very honest. I had a few friends who were in school with me who had kids and they BARELY made it. They did it, but it was extremely tough. Make sure you have a very good support system. You will most definitely need it.

PS- I was a very good student and graduated top in my class in-case you were wondering if this paid off. I am happy to say I am an RN now :D and that school is behind me! :eek:
