I am a Male student nurse . Is it okay for Male Nurse to specilize OB/GYN ?
How Patients feel about it ?
Will it be difficult to find job and patient ?
Will male nurse be marginalized being ob/gyn ?
I am very curious ...please give some feedback

i will be honest - as a female patient i wouldn't be comfortable at all. on top of that you may find it difficult because if the MD is male a female must be present for exams - that means that you would be an extra hand - which is not economical.

I say go for it! Look at it this way...there are plenty of male physicians who choose to specialize in OB/GYN, so why should nursing be any different? There may be some females who prefer to have a female MD or nurse as opposed to a male, but there will be some who don't have a preference. Your ability to do well as an OB/GYN nurse has nothing to do with your gender! I have a male friend who has been doing OB/GYN nursing for many years and he loves it. Patients generally respond quite well to him. Good luck with your decision!

It would depend on what kind of a guy you are. I would probably be cool with it

How does the hospital have the right to decide they don't want to employ male RNs in labor and delivery? If a doc orders that none of his patients will have female nurses, does the hospital bend to that as well? How about Jewish nurses? Blacks? Nope, can't have them either.
I am currently taking law classes and when I finish I may just move to Oregon and sue the hell out of that hospital. That is a clear case of discriminatory hiring practices.
Earthlover, go ahead and go for it. You'll probably get bored with it though. I did it for about 2 years and it's not that much fun, IMO.

Sure it is. :)
Most will be OK. You might run into a few where it might be a problem, because of cultural beliefs.
Wouldn't think it would be difficult to find a job, unless that hospital just doesn't have any openings for nurses in their OB/GYN dept.
I know of one hospital in Oregon where no male nurses are employed in L&D. Reason? One doctor has ordered that all his patients will ONLY have female nurses.
I'm surprised they haven't been sued for discrimination.
