im a male nursing student
I can give you some feedback in what nursing school is like
first off i wanna say its MUCH easier then people here are saying, once you get the hang of the tests, it gets to be a piece of cake
clinicals are harder, bc of the stuff you are required to know, and the pace
overall nursing school is alot of work, but it is def possible to hold a job, or do track and field
what are your motivations for being a nurse, aside from the options it offers and pay
nsg school can be a full-time job w/tests and care plans. running track will be a great way to decompress. Also after graduation the crazy nsg shifts (3 * 12 hr shifts) could allow time for training. good luck and enjoy the learning
I was wondering if any here mentors and knows a mentor in nursing who they talk to when they were going to nursing school or before going to nursing school..
My academic advisor at Duke is great--he has been really helpful leading up to me starting there in Aug. He's done some writing on males in nursing... I think it will be an important relationship for me.
We also have a Male Nursing Student forum which may be helpful to you as well. It is under the Students tab at the top of any page.
Ok, I know my brain is fried (first term ns) but isn't THIS the Male Nursing Student Forum? I'm not being a smart a**, just afraid I might be losing it! (I just spent the last 4 hours catching up on Pharm assignments.)
Also, I agree with the earlier poster who said that school really isn't as "HARD" as most make it out to be, its the sheer volume of work that has to be done that takes its toll on you.

Hello everyone I am a male college student I was just excepted into the nursing program at PCC in california. I was wondering if any here mentors and knows a mentor in nursing who they talk to when they were going to nursing school or before going to nursing school. I was wondering if anyone here can give me any input on there experience in nursing school as a male student and how they knew this was the right career choice for them.
-Some background on me
-have a bachelors degree in kinesiology from Cal State Northridge
-College track athlete, I love it and hopefully wish to compete professionally some day.
-Chose to apply to nursing school because seemed like a career that relates to my degree and seemed a very open field with many options to choose from.
- I don't mind blood or bodily fluids
-Very approachable, friendly person
-Good listener with people
-Would still like to compete in track and field while attending nursing school.
