Dude, you sound exactly like me, word for word. I was half-way through nursing school and i realized it wasnt for me. Everything you have brought up are the reasons why i decided I didn't want to do it. I thought about being a PA and still think about it, but right now im ok with working on the business side of the hospital.

can you expand on what you mean by that?

what does that above comment have anything to do with her troubles?

pretty extreme sorry, but as a male, when i was working as a CNA i always felt like the other cnas who were all female were constantly talking about sexual issues, such as how big (blank) guy was or who they slept with pretty uncomfortable situation, but i guess I now have a perspective on how it makes females feel when a whole bunch of guys are making sexual jokes etc duno, i feel like this is pretty common in the work situations I have been in, in this female dominated profession

interesting prespectives, i think we would all love to hear more about this issue from experienced nurses

I should throw my 2 cents in this too I switched my major from business to nursing, because i realized i love medical sciences, i love learning about anatomy, microbio, nutrition, etc so i decided on nursing as my career, mid-way thru my second semester i realized i just didnt want to do it, i mean i LOVED lecture bc i loved learning about the disease process, but i hated clinicals and i hated the job of being a nurse well its been 6months later, and i can say i still sometimes i fee like i should of stuck with nursing, but i realized why, because im scared that I dont know what else i will do? i am finishing up my degree in public health and hope to get a health promotion job, but i still have that fear, getting a job in nursing is much easier I think one way to figure out if its for you or not, is to look beyond the career opportunties and the pay and think about the worst possible situation in nursing and whether you would still want to do it? if you still have that passion, i believe nursing would be for you

I actually had a question about this myself is it normal for them to ask you to come in anyway if you told them you have the flu/cold and you dont want to spread it to patients?

its going to be different, you cant speak the same way you do around guys and being the minority is not fun IMO

that happened to some students in my first semester class, one girl fell down while roller blading on her elbow, some how she become septic and went to the ER and missed a test, my teacher did not allow her to retake it and there was no way for her to pass the semester because of it... pretty heart less IMO, i thought nursing was supose to be about compassion, guess not when it comes to students...

wow alot of new dicussion, in my current clinical experience, i really have not had to move any patients for whatever reason, besides adjusting so far but i can tell you, i worked as a CNA for 3 months, and the first day i was there we had to lift a 300+ women from her bed to wheel chair, i really strained my lower back, i couldnt even do anything the rest of my 8 hr shift on top of that i didnt say anything bc it was my first day (ya real smart) but luckily the strain was healed within 2 weeks, no harm

duno if this is true, but have any of you heard the stat that within 5 years most nurses leave their job to higher positions or out of the field? any merit to this "stat"

a lil backround on me, i just finished my first year of nursing skool and am lukewarm about my experience i have alot of experience working in retail while in highschool as well as college so i wanted to compare my experiences there to being a nurse and was wondering if i could handle the "crap" nurses have to put up with as compared to the retail environment When i worked retail I could deal with alot of it, but i was working part time and i didnt care for the job, on top of it, i use to get internally annoyed quite often when i had to deal with rude/cheap/annoying customers who felt entitled

I had a question for those people who have worked retail, especially customer service and i wanted to know if they could compare their experiences vs nursing in terms of the "bs" one has to deal with, as well as patients vs customers and how rude/wrong/etc they are to you basically what im asking is is nursing like customer service retail jobs in terms of the bs and "the customer is alwasy right" stuff....

how about when your back gives up on you? alot nurses complain about back pain, with their own patient load, if ur taking on other RNs loads, how long can ur back last?
