Hey everyone, just starting a topic for people to discuss City Colleges of Chicago Nursing application process for fall 2023. I've had all my documents marked as complete for weeks now, status on my application just updated to "viable candidate". Anyone else hear anything? They haven't had very many info sessions this semester. Anyone know why?
Still marked "viable candidate" on my end. During one of the info sessions, they said they would start sending out acceptance letters the first week after the application deadline. However, we all know Malcom x administration moves at snail's pace. From last semester's thread it, it looks like they might wait until the end of the semester to open up registration.
If you go into the class schedule it looks like there are three people who have registered for Nursing 101 already, I guess people who were accepted for Spring but deferred. Apparently there are 90 spots. The schedule looks a little rough. Most of the lab sections have at least one day that starts at 6:30...

From what I heard from one of the fall 22 cohort that I had Microbiology with, it was crazy last Spring. They ended up pushing the submission deadline into June. Hopefully this Spring will be a little more calm.

I was never able to attend an info session, since I have MicroBio 233 in the evenings on Mondays and Wednesdays, did they say which criteria they base their selection on? I got a 94 overall on the TEAS and a 96 in reading and have a 3.95 GPA, but if it's a lottery type situation I guess none of that matters.

When I attended an info session they had said that as long as you meet all the requirements you had a very good chance at getting admitted. Most of the time people don't get in the program due to missing shots, a pre-req, or not sending their transcripts over and that allows other least competitive students with a complete application to be admitted.

I think it's a hard program like every other nursing program but they allow the opportunity to a lot of us that wouldn't be able to afford a university or be admitted to a regular program with such high competition.

I think the TEAS is actually a bigger filter than we realize. I was looking at the percentile ranks for the minimum scores, which are actually at the 70th percentile. That means seven out of ten people who take it don't meet the minimum score, which is kind of heartbreaking when you think about it.

Yes, that's is very sad. I had a classmate last semester who had to take the TEAS 3 times until she made the score. That held her back a year. I personally took it without studying to just get a sense of it and got 3-4 points above the required and fell under proficient. I attended an info de session and asked if I should retake as I was not happy with my score and they said as long as you meet the minimum criteria that's fine.
Often times the hardest part is getting all the prerequisites, making the TEAS scores, GPA, and other factors to just to be able to marked as a viable candidate. I mistakenly thought that since I had submitted my H.S. transcripts to Truman they would automatically be in the system as they are all CCC and that small factor held me back up until this semester.
now another factor is not having staff that responds in a timely matter or reply at all.

Thanks guys. They ended up sending me an email saying that I need to submit a concession letter to the admissions committee explaining my GPA. I'll let you guys know what happens after I submit it and receive a response.
