As opened my mailbox, and sifted through the usual nonsense junk mail, I came across this curious letter from my college, and I knew this was different than the typical bill, or school event announcement due to the "ADN" in small letters in the upper left hand corner. I immediately grabbed the letter opener, peaked inside, and read the first sentence stating,"We are pleased to inform you of your acceptance into the Associate Degree Nursing Program for fall semester, 2010." I screamed as loud as I could!
I even went to my next door neighbor, and slightly startled her when I practically shoved the letter in her face. I apologized for the scary, yet happy excitement ofcourse. She is a retired nurse, and game me a nice, tight hug in congratulations. I then proceeded to call nearly everyone I know. My friends, mom's work, mom's boyfriend, even the bank teller I talk to all the time. All I can say is how excited I am and really relieved. Before I would tell people I've applied with crossed fingers, now I can tell them I've been accepted. However, the nursing road is now truly open to me, and the trials and tribulations are really beginning. I have never heard anyone say," Wow, the last 2 years in the program were a breez!" I know that this will be the biggest challenge of my life to date. I will not take this lightly, and will be determined, now more than ever.
I wanted to share my experience, for what had seemed a brief second of bliss, to all those out there working so very hard for this same moment. This can and will be all of you someday. This is not for bragging purposes, but rather, something to look forward to, and your long nights of studying, and sacrifice will inevitably pay off. This letter is a product of this very type of sacrifice. I hope that each of you feel the way I do now, and get your hands on this feeling of success. Good luck!
