I interviewed earlier this week for a CNA position and was inquiring about LPN positions for when I graduate. The woman in HR said the hospital is pursuing magnet status and will be cutting back on LPNs. Is this a normal thing for magnets? I don't plan to be an LPN forever, in fact I will be going back for my RN within a few months of LPN graduation, but I do need to work as one in the meantime. So I'm just curious...

I work at a magnet facility. I do not know about "cutting back" on LPN's, but considering the hospital has its own "school of practical nursing" that it doesn't really advertise very well, and we have one lpn working on my unit, who was hired after we were already a magnet hospital, the simple answer is
YES magnet hospitals do hire LPN's

I work at a Magnet and while we didn't get rid of our LPN's, we aren't hiring any either. And they are pushing our Lpns to go back to school and get their BSN, not just their RN.
When you interview, ask about tution help and if you need to commit to X amount of time after. They may hire you with the stipulation that you finish RN school in a timeframe. Good Luck!

I agree with Bitty....hospitals in my area (both magnet and not) are not hiring LPNs. They HAVE them, but as they leave, they are replaced with RNs. Currently no openings for LPNs in any of them.
However, I liked Bitty's suggestion to check into a hire/payback situation...you might well find that they'll carry you as an LPN in expectation of you working for them as an RN :)
