Hi, I am a pre-nursing student and wanted to know what is a magnet hospital and a LTC? I might be retarded for asking so forgive me for wasting your time! Also I wanted to know do you get paid more if you work at a magnet hospital or do you need more experience? Also, does anyone who lives in the hampton roads area of Virginia knows if Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one since they have all this big promotion of being the best and opening up a "heart hospital"?

Hi there and welcome. No questions are trivial:
LTC - long term care or commonly, nursing home
Magnet Hospital - designation by the ANCC as being more nurse friendly.
Can't help with info about that hospital because I live in IL, but hang in there and someone will come along that can help you. Take care.

Hi capribry~
Norfolk General is not a magnet hospital. I think there are only 3 in the state. I am not sure that you get paid more for the magnet status, more based on your experience.
Every hospital will have a goal/mission- where I work it is "To Be the Best". If you look at the other hospitals in the area SNG is the only level 1 trauma center.... They seem to get bigger every day. The Heart Center is just their next step.
Hope that helps with some of your questions.
