2011 Macomb Community College HESI and GPA scores for nursing program

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I'm trying to get into the Macomb Community College Nursing program. I just took the HESI test and scored a 86.5%. I Also have a 4.0 GPA. What are my chances into getting into the program for 2011, since my HESI is still kind of low?

If anyone can relate please comment. Post scores so we can compare! Thanks for your thoughts:)

90% HESI 4.0 GPA

does anyone know if HHSC 1040 is required before starting the program or do you just have to take it before finishing the nursing program? I'm not really sure but I'm a little nervous because at first I didn't know it was required, the counselor told me I could take it over the summer, and now of course they don't offer it in the summer. If I get accepted and am able to start in August or October will that hold me back?!

Yes it is required to start the program. For next years applicants it will be required to apply to the program along with AP, Micro, English and the Hesi. If you get in you will have to take it in the fall and start after its done. But check with the counselor to be safe.

I was considering taking it in the summer but luckily the waitlist moved and I got in this semester. I was told by someone at the nursing department that if you get into nursing but do not have 1040 done, you will need to take it in the fall and cannot start the nursing program until Jan or March.

I would check to see if this is correct, maybe they'll change their minds and offer something in the spring/summer.

It won't be an issue for students applying next year because it has to be done to even apply to nursing.

I agree, the HHSC 1040 class is required before starting the nursing classes for the 2011-2012 start year. For the 2012-2013 start year, the nursing department has made the class part of the ranking process and so it must be completed before the application deadline in February along with A&P, Micro, and English.

Anyone who gets into the program for 2011-2012 that hasn't taken HHSC 1040 yet will be required to do so before starting the NURS courses. Unfortunately for some, there are no HHSC courses listed in this summer's schedule of classes.

SO, is anyone else getting super anxious!?!:yeah:

I spoke with an official at the college. HHSC1040, may be taken in the first semester, concurrent with other courses or not, for those of us who applied for fall 2011. It is not required for our group to complete HHSC1040 in advance. In fact, it is not even offered for the summer semester. THey will offer it in the fall and those of us accepted into the program for 2011 may take it at then.

Soon and very soon people!! It's April 4th and that means hopefully within the next 3-4 weeks we will get our letters! It's exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. I'll post as soon as I get the first letter stating when the ranking will begin. If you guys could post when you guys get anything too that would be great to know! Good luck to everyone!! :)

I just spoke with counseling and they have not been told numbers (how many applied and ranked) yet. I will check every Monday and Friday and keep you all updated. Best of Luck to all!:)

Just wanted to let all you guys know....My intro to nursing professor told the class last week that less than 400 students applied this year and the GPA was a lot lower than they're used to at Macomb. That means good news for pretty much everyone! Good luck!

Thank you for checking! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that it would be very much appreciated if you kept us informed!

Everyone:

Last year, there were 381 students that were able to be ranked (the students had applied, had the 3 classes done, and took the Hesi; all by the Feb 15th deadline) I'm sure many more than that applied but didn't finish a class or something to that extent. I am very curious to know how many will be ranked, not just the number of students that turned in an application.

It does not suprise me if the number of applications submitted went down. The state was doing that "No Worker Left Behind" program was still going on, so I think "free" money is motivation enough for a lot of people to fill out a one-page application!

Any new readers mind sharing their GPA & HESI scores?

Kaitlinaubree: ask your teacher whether all of those (the less than 400) ranked. That will be the big difference if that was just the amount that applied!!! So we need to know how many applied vs. how many ranked!! Do you have ---- for your teacher?

I think this year will be also down in applicants, which will benefit us greatly!! It seems to me that everyone that posts to this website usually gets in (Bonus!!) I honestly have been checking the mail everyday like a maniac, only to find bills and magazines :( I believe last year they got their first set of letters around April 15th-16th, so we have a little bit more waiting to go. When I talked with a counselor not too long ago, he said that last year the lowest scores to get in were a 3.5 GPA and a 87 on the Hesi, which is good news if you got higher than that.
