Do you guys know that if the nurse isn't going on the field trip, the parent needs to be notified the name of the "trained" person who will be administering the epi (or other delegated meds) and the parent needs to provide written consent that it is OK for the delegate to administer? I had no idea. A check box on the health form at the beginning of the year that says "I authorize the school nurse or other person delegated by the nurse to administer medication to my child" is not acceptable.

Huh? I have sat through the MA delegation training twice (once very recently) and swear I was not told this.

But I do have a specific field trip medication form I have parents sign. It doesn't have the name though, to be honest, but does mention it will be delegated to a teacher in the grade of my choosing that has been properly trained.

I do train every single person at my school during back to school PD (the week before kids start) to administer Epi so I can delegate that more easily on my end.

Yup, me too! Our new Nurse Leader for the District just saw this in the regs for medication administration and delegation and was like seriously?? It's on page 28 of this document at he bottom second to last check box:

I share an office with her for my new position so it is interesting to say the least all the stuff she has to do, regs to know, etc.

The only thing I will say, is that NEUSHA/I is no longer accepted for School Nurse Certification by DESE in MA; Only BUSHIELD classes are accepted. I also, do not recall the BUSHIELD program mentioning this (I did the program in August).

They really like to make things hard for school nurses in our state sometimes, don't they...

Yep, I did the program through BUSHIELD in August 2018 (after having done it through NEUSHA 5 years prior) and not a mention of it.

Yes I knew that, but there is a check off box on our parental Med Amin. permission slips that cover it. I do not recall learning it thru NEUSHA, but that was 8 years ago.

AND speaking of BUSHIED...BU doesn't even have a school of nursing, I dont know why they even took this over from Northeastern University! (OK, I went NU for nursing, so I am partial to them!) But still!! Crazy! LOL!

Something tells me there must have been some kind of D-R-A-M-A between NEUSHA and DPH.
