Can somebody please explain to me how the 30 unit option work?

I talked to Pacific College here in California and was told that they would accept my 30 unit option for the online RN to BSN.

By the way my husband is the Navy and we might get stationed somewhere else within the next 2 years.

Thanks :)

What is a 30 unit option?

How on earth could they put you in an ASN-BSN program if your are not currently an RN? Every college that I've ever heard of you have to currently have an RN license to apply to bridge to a BSN whether it's an ASN or diploma RN.

30 unit option in California is not a degree, it will give me the chance to take the NCLEX-RN. Once RN, I'm assuming that the school will accept my license to go from RN to BSN.

I think she means Pacific College will accept her into their RN-to-BSN program if she attains RN licensure through the 30 unit option, which is only valid in California.

I would avoid the 30 unit option, as it is too limiting. The RN licensure is only valid in California and will not be accepted for endorsement in other states since you will essentially be a nongraduate RN (RN without a diploma or degree of any type).

Even if you get a BSN your license will forever be marked as a 30-unit alternate route and reduce if not eliminate the opportunity to endorse to other states

I agree with the others, especially because you say you may be stationed anywhere outside of CA. You're definitely better off obtaining your RN through more traditional routes so you'll be able to work wherever you end up. :) Good luck to you.

Actually, I think the 30 unit program is great for CA nurse students who don't plan on ever moving out of state.
