Just wanted to get ya'lls opinion...here goes: I am currently working in a SNF and hospice prn. will be going full time with hospice in a few months. i have finally made up my mind to bridge to rn. i still have about 7 prereqs to take and i'm torn between taking classes online (thru rue or college network) OR just finishing up my prereqs (which will take about a year or so) then applying to the community college for the bridge program. I've spoken to someone with college network and they tell me it would probably take about 12 mo. or less since i already have a few prereqs. your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi welcome:balloons:and congrats on working towards furthering your education...College network and Rue are not the actual college you will be doing the distance based program from, they are publishers of the study material you need, the college is Excelsior college, the study materials you need can be purchased off the internet, or purchased from the college itself..Some choose to purchase from those publishers but you can pay a hefty price for them $3,000 + and you have to sign a contract so just be careful and do a search before signing up ... hope this helps good luck:p

In addition to the price of the online Rn cost, you'd have to put in alot of studying to pass the exam. At least 3-4 months for each subject. The average cost for each exam is about $100.00. I personally tried the college network way and I studied my heart and soul out just to make D'S, so I paid off the loan and went the traditional way. It has worked out alot better. I would suggest going to class for your pre-reqs that way you'll be in the school system, know all the info. needed to apply for the program and the right time to apply. These are my two cents.

As youve heard,, its double study time online. It's hard enough to go LPN to RN in a program on campus, but to have to do it with no support/peer system in place seems like signing yourself up to fail.
I say get the prereqs at CC and go through their program on campus where you have the hands on clinicals with instructors who are there to help you succeed, not leave you to fail on your own. You can always do ADN to BSN online, but your increased chances of passing NCLEX actually in a college setting is worth the time spent in the classroom. IMHO,,and theres 2 more cents.

You know your study habits best...
Extremely disciplined students are able to get it done online or via distance education, while others need the motivation of being in a traditional school setting. Good luck to you!
Thanks for all of the suggestions/input.....I talked to a NP today and she pretty much convinced me to go the traditional route...I think that's the safest way to go, and the best for my situation. May be good for some people, just not for me.. thanks again.
