Lucile Packard RN Residency Program Sep 2023

Hi Everyone! Just creating this thread, so we can communicate any updates with each other.

I received an offer from PCU 200 and 400. Still deciding which one to take as one is cardiac step down and the other is med-Surg mostly neuro. I like the critical care of 200 and the variety of 400. I did my preceptorship in peds med-Surg and felt like it was too busy for me to really focus on each patient. What are your thoughts?

Hey! Congrats! Go with your gut and what you think will be the best learning opportunity for you. Also, when did you get the call?

Hi, I did my pediatric clinical rotation on PCU 200. they still get 3-4 patients each, and they are all cardiac focused. I'd say if you want more variety definitely go for 400.

Ah okay thank you! That helps a lot! When I toured 200 I really liked the vibe and the manager seems really friendly and supportive, 400 I didn't get that vibe. So torn! How would you describe the culture of 200 when you did your clinical?

I don't know about the manager but everyone on the unit was extremely friendly! they all were very supportive of one another and every nurse seemed like they were friends and interacted outside of work and it didn't seem like a chore to them! Never had a bad interaction with a nurse there. That unit also does this super cool walk out when one of the patients discharge, they gather in the hallway and cheer and have pom poms, and it's pretty cool and unique to see. I didn't choose to interview for that unit just cuz I didn't want to be only cardiac focused, but every other aspect of that unit is great!

Wow that is amazing! Thank you for sharing that. Now I am going to even have a tougher time choosing. I totally agree with the unit being only cardiac focused, I'm wondering if it would hinder my career path. I'm hoping to do PICU later down the road but want to gain my bearings in lower acuity first.

Has anyone else gotten a call?

Ah I see. I don't think it would hinder you getting PICU in the future purely because they are more critical patients since it's a step down. and if you end up loving Cardiac you'll have option of PICU and CVICU. I say go with your gut, you wanna be on a unit you'll be happy and work culture is a huge aspect of it!

Hey guys! Congrats to all who got a call back so far! Has anyone heard back from PICU yet?

Still waiting. ?

would it be safe to say that if I didn't receive a call for PCU then it's most likely a rejection? But also, Congratulations to those who received their verbal offers- be proud of your accomplishments!! ??
