Hi! I wanted to know what's the salary like for a LPN in CT working in a nursing home. I love working with the elderly population. Thanks for any replies! Have a bless day! :)

I just posted this reply re: pay in Ltc in connecticut. I make about $26.00 per hour where I work and this applies to all lpns new grads, new hirees. All Ltc facilities in the area pay about the same. some even more. Sounds like the highest in the states. Not hard to find job. same job 24 years I even got hired 24 years ago for 24 hrs (during a nusring shortage)with full benefits for me and kids!! Hard to leave under those circumstances. Double time and half for holdays(13) which would be $60/hr.5 weeks vacation etc...

Believe me I work all holidays. Ltc tho alot harder than when I started!! Call me need a job?

hello CT nurses. How come only one person replied to this question?? I am planning on moving to the Hartford area as in the spring. am a Lpn and would like to know what pay rate I can be looking at. I will have one year experience when I move. Also, am moving from a no state tax state...how much (%) does the state get from your check?? I bet you it's a painful amount... any replies will be very welcome. Also, how is it living in Hartford area? are there jobs to be had (LPN)? I was looking online and seems like rent is a bit steep...can you live comfortably on your pay without having to live check to check?

My friend who is an LPN and in school with me right now makes 28.00 an hour in New Haven. Seems like good pay :)

There are some job postings for staff RN, starting at 63,000 in Hartford/New Britain area. Visit salary.com

Wow, $28/hr for an LPN, that really is very good! How many yrs has your friend been practicing? From what I know the starting salary for a new RN at Yale is around $25-26/hr? I believe this is really unfair. Not taking anything away from an LPN, but there is much more educational requirements for an RN than for an LPN so the pay rate should be substantially higher. As a Registered Dental Hygienist, the pay rate for new grads is around $38++ in Fairfield County. That also is not fair in my opinion. New Haven Cty does pay less though. I am amazed that the staff RN rates are $63K for New Britain!

She's been an LPN for 8 yrs.

I was looking at salary.com and 60k+ is common in the New Britain area.

Hi i am a lpn who lives in Fairfield county Ct, the most expensive area to live in and i have five years exp. If you work LTC staffing you can make up to $35 an hour and if you work holidays you can double that amount..LTC staffing can be really hard i seen some lpns bring in $2500 weekly there is a real need in this area but rents are very high 1 bedroom can cost $1000+ a month and can require three months deposit.

I work baylor shift at a nursing home in the Torrington area. My hourly pay is about $22 an hr. But I work baylor weekends..so basically I work two twelve hour shifts and get paid for 40 hrs. I take home about $638 a week. I have picked up a couple extra 8 hr shifts and my work pays a $100 bonus for each shift picked up, so when I actually work 40 hrs..I take home about $1000.

BTW, I graduated last December so I am still a new nurse.

Sounds good. Congratulations on graduating :)

Yes, I need a job, but I'm an RN. Ten years exp in LTC plus more in med-surg. Must work in the central/Middletown area. Just had a disappointing experience due to a chronic health condition. I was out of work quite a bit last year, so I agreed to come in two nights without pay to "shadow" the regular nurse and prove that I could do the job. She and I were both enthused and sure that I could. Never did that before and never will again! They would rather keep paying an agency than take a chance on someone with a disability. Think I'll call the Dept of Labor tomorrow. Oh well - I believe in myself and so do a lot of other people. Can't afford to get sucked under by resentment or self-pity. "God bless us all!"
