Do you have it in your facility? Are you closed to admissions? Staff have it? Using treatment prophylatically?

No to all of the above, although we do seem to have more pneumonia going around amongst the residents than normal. Slow trend growing over the past 6 weeks. We have tested the sickest of those for influenze but so far every single one has come back negative.

We generally offer the flu shot to staff in the fall and have about 20-30% accept it. Today we pulled the vaccine back out and went from employee to employee basically pressuring them to get it. If they had a really good reason for refusal we would let them slide but the large majority of them are just chickens when it comes to needles (including my best unit manager who finally rolled up her sleeve revealing a large tattoo).

No flu in my facility to date. We did have a horrible GI bug so maybe the flu germs have healthier places to visit.

I had one positive. Tonight I have 3 people I am waiting on results of Nasal Swabs but I bet they are positive. Most facilities in my area are closed to admissions and we just decided to do it today to for a week.
