LSUHSC CARE Program Information

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

Mine is for June 23 as well!

Mine is June 23rd, as well.

Anyone know when classes start? Looking at last year it seems the first day may be August 10th but they don't have the new calendar up yet on their website.

Classes have started on a Wednesday for the past several years. You'll probably have a "level orientation" (which is different than your one in June) the day before classes start. Last year, classes started on the 11th. 2 years ago, they started on the 12th - seems to be the second Wednesday of August. That's what I'd plan for. Lord only knows when they'll post the actual schedule. Everything is very last minute here.

On the CARE website it says:

*If Anatomy (4 hours) and Physiology (4 hours) have been completed in the prior degree, students may be given 4 credit hours of Anatomy only.

I took Anatomy last summer and got a B and I am currently enrolled in Physiology. Does anyone know if they will take my Physiology from this semester (last day of class is May 12) so that I am given credit for Anatomy? Or would it need to have been completed prior to my application submission? What grade do I need in it to be given credit for Anatomy (if I am still good to go)?

Thanks! See y'all June 23!!

Probably just needs to be completed before matriculation. Make sure you bring your transcript to your advisor appointment. I'm hoping to get out of Anatomy, too, and I'm enrolled in A & P II this semester. No idea what the grade spec. might be...the higher the better, though! Might as well start working that Physiology real good, I hear its a B*TCH first semester.

They will not take your physiology credits - you have to take the one at LSUHSC. CARE didn't used to get credit for anatomy, but I know for a fact they took some people's anatomy credits from the CARE class that started this year. Just beware - they refused to take any of ours (2 years ago) and made us all take anatomy again even though many traditionals didn't have to. No clue why. Just talk to someone ASAP at your orientation in June and don't let them bully you with a "no." Bug them until you get a straight answer and get the rationale behind their answer if it's negative. They'll often say that just because they did it before doesn't mean they have to do it again. The wording on the website is "MAY" be given credit and they will use that however they please, unfortunately.

I had also had 2 semesters of A & P I and II - I got credit for neither. If they give you credit for anything, it'll be anatomy. You'd only have to have the passing grade of "C" I would think. That's all you need to pass it if you'd take it here. If you do have to take anatomy, it's pretty simple memorization and practice and the instructors are wonderful.

Not trying to be negative, just want you to make sure you get good, solid answers from LSUHSC.

Hi everyone...

I'm new to the forum thing, but I'm in CARE X and want to help however I can. A friend who was accepted told me about this thread. I really wish I would've had someone to get info from when I was waiting this time last year. In reference to the A & P credit, many of my classmates did not have to take anatomy. Just about everyone who had taken a&p I and II were exempt from retaking. Also, most of my class didn't have to take psych. Being able to stay out of those two classes makes for a pretty easy semester for some (I had to take everything).

I just wanted to say hello! :) I'd be happy to answer any questions that I can!

Thanks for the clarification on anatomy, medtech! I knew some of y'all were exempt, didn't know how many. We (CARE IX) had a ton of people who didn't have to take abnormal psych also but they made us all take anatomy. I think our complaints about that did you guys some good!

Hey medtech..do yall have anyone in ur class that got in from the alternate list? I'm actually own the alt.list and just wanted to know how long does the ppl on the alt list usually wait?

I know of 2 people that started with CARE X from the alternate list.

Thanks for the info cpkrn2b2011...about how long do they wait until they start making decisions to accept those on the list and how do they go off the list?
