I'm in my first semester at LSUHSC New Orleans. They have a 22 mos. ABSN called the "CARE" program, and I am thrilled so far. I'm so glad this was the local program...I looked into MANY others across the county, and this one very inexpensive in comparison (even for out of staters!), esp. for the quality of the school. Its part of a Health Sciences Center, so we have some professors who also teach medical students, and first semester anatomy is done on cadavers - not something every nursing student gets to experience! My class is the 11th to go through the ABSN, and it seems its getting better every year, but I have yet to start clinicals. I'm told that once we do have clinicals, they will be once or twice a week, (appx 12 hours total) and not on class days. Working is not recommended, but this first semester I am still able to work some. There are 5 back to back semesters, the first and fifth are with the traditional students, the middle three are accelerated. This program would be worth moving to New Orleans for (moving to New Orleans is worth it in and of itself, speaking from prior experience) and I am SO glad to be in it! Hope this helps!

I don't have insurance until the LSU policy kicks in. I called the health center and they recommend trying Daughter's of Charity. They do a sliding scale for cost. If you have insurance, any clinic should be able to do your vaccinations and TB test.

Probably just needs to be completed before matriculation. Make sure you bring your transcript to your advisor appointment. I'm hoping to get out of Anatomy, too, and I'm enrolled in A & P II this semester. No idea what the grade spec. might be...the higher the better, though! Might as well start working that Physiology real good, I hear its a B*TCH first semester.

I've heard a lot of stories about people getting in from the alternate list. Someone even said they were offered admission the week before classes started. Don't lose hope!

Where do you find info about the TEAS test? I went to the ATI site and they said Eunice was the only option in the state. I also have only applied to LSU, but I'm starting to look around at possible options in and out of state...kind of kicking myself for putting all my eggs in one basket.

My interview was about 30 minutes, my interviewers were really chatty and friendly. I'm trying not to stress out about whether I get in or not. I really, really want to be in the next class, but I have done everything that I could and its in their hands. Either way, I hope I find out soon. It seems with the rate this process is taking, that we will find out before May. I submitted my application less than a month ago, let's hope they keep up this pace! Good luck to you all!! Hi Karanikita! I am also going to be applying to LSUs CARE program in Spring 2011. I think as far as LSU is concerned I am still an out-of-state student, but I have been here since 2006. I moved here from Maine to go to Tulane, just graduated. I was concerned about getting in, but I was told that state residency is not taken into consideration for acceptance. I hope that this is the truth. I assume that it is, since they have not problem saying that state residency IS a factor in getting into the PA program in Shreveport. Thats my logic anyhow. I'm sure community involvement would be a benefit to you, esp. in the essay/interview. Best of luck! Lindsay
