NCLEX Advice
I did the live hurst review which was a three day course offered at my school but I know they have an online review as well that is cheaper. The hurst review (both online and live) offer 6 practice tests that were 125 questions each that were helpful. Good luck!

Mosby's Review or Hurst... insight please :)
I did the Hurst review and really liked it. If its content that you are having trouble understanding then Hurst will definitely help you. I didn't do any Mosby and I took my NCLEX today. I am still waiting on my results but I only got 75 questions so I am hoping I passed. I felt confident about it. You may want to also check out NCLEX Mastery app. I found that really helpful too.

NCLEX Advice
I graduated this past May and just took the NCLEX today...still waiting for results. Our school made us do ATI which I scored a 76% on the comprehensive test, that translated into a 97% chance that I would pass the NCLEX. After I graduated, I did Hurst review and found it to be extremely helpful especially with understanding content. I also downloaded the NCLEX Mastery app to my phone which has over 1400 questions that were really helpful. All in all, I studied non-stop for a good 2-3 weeks and probably did about 2500 practice questions scoring between 75-80% on practice tests. I have heard of people passing with only scoring 60-70% on practice tests. When I took the test today, I did feel confident and I did only get 75 questions so hopefully that is a good sign. My advice would be to do as many questions as you can, understand what the question is asking, and know that rationale behind the answer. If you can't tell from above, I tend to over prepare. I know alot of people that did less than me and still passed. Good luck.

LSU CARE 2012?
I highly doubt that they will accept patho. They really like you to take physiology and patho there. They do accept Anatomy credits but I would strongly recommend taking Anatomy at LSUHSC because the experience you get from the cadaver lab is incredible. I will never forget it. Some people opted out of taking Anatomy their first semester to have a lighter course load and I think they regretted it in the end. Just my

LSU CARE 2012?
Just make sure whatever Abnormal Psychology or Genetics course you take, that it gets approved by the Director of the CARE program because things have a way of changing quite often at LSUHSC. I know when I started they accepted PSYC 3082 from LSU-BR as well as well as BIOL 2153 and BIOL 4246 for Genetics but you may want to double check just in case. I would suggesting emailing her on if the courses are accepted or not, that way you have it in writing. :)

LSU CARE 2012?
If anyone is interested in touring LSUHSC and finding out more about the CARE program, they are having informational sessions, May 3, May 24, and June 7. I attended one last year before I got accepted into the program and it really helps in making you understand what you are getting yourself into. Check out the link below. I also want to wish everyone luck with getting their acceptance letters. I remember how painfully nerve wracking it was at this time last year. Also, a bit of advice, try to take Abnormal Psychology or Genetics this summer, that way you won't have to take it at LSUHSC. It will save you time and extra headaches from course overload! Just make sure whatever course you take, the credits are accepted. LSUHSC School of Nursing | Prospective Students - Informational Sessions

Did anyone else have a bad 1st day of clinicals??
I am sorry you had such a bad day. I don't start clinicals until January so I really can't offer any advice, but hang in there, I am sure it is bound to get better. Go home, drink some wine, get some rest and remember tomorrow is a new day. Good Luck.

Hopefull yet again to become a nurse
Sorry about your situation. As far as the CARE plan goes, they only admit once a year (in the fall) and the deadline application is Jan 15. You don't need AP I & II to apply for CARE but micro is required as a pre-req. I would call the school and find out if you can apply for the 2012 fall class and take Micro in the spring, that way you don't have to wait another year. Good luck.

LSU CARE 2012?
First off, congrats on applying to the CARE program. I started it this semester and it is intense. I was out of school 10 years so it does take some time getting back into the swing of things. As far as the application process goes, I think they will look at your pre-req GPA more than your overall GPA. Also the essay and your interview will play a huge part. I would recommend having your packet completed by December and hand delivering it to LSU. A week before everything is due I would call and double check to make sure they have everything as sometimes they can enter wrong information into the computer. Everyone that submits an application will get an interview. You usually interview with one faculty member and two senior students. The students need to participate in the interview processing to get credit for their management course. I thought I had bombed my interview and still got accepted so don't sweat it, just be yourself. A few words of advice, if you haven't already, take Abnormal Psychology. If you take it now then you won't have to take it in the fall which will allow you more time to focus on Anatomy and Physiology. Trust me, you want the extra time to study Physiology!! I would contact (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST NAMES OF THOSE IN YOUR PROGRAM PER TOS) to see what abnormal psych courses are transferable to LSU so that you can make sure you take the right one. Also, I would say if you can, start saving now because you will not be able to work when you start nursing school. It is too intense!! My husband and I actually started putting my paycheck into our savings account at the beginning of the year and just tried to live off of his salary to see if we could make it. That actually worked out really well and let us build up our saving to where I didn't have to take out student loans when I quit my job. It is just a thought. If you have any other questions, please let me know. I remember being in your shoes this time last year and it is nerve-wracking. Especially waiting for that acceptance letter. Good luck to you. I wish you all the best. Jaime

Starting in August - scared and nervous!!
I am also in the same boat as you. I am a second career student starting an accelerated BSN program next month and it really hit me about 2 weeks ago. I have the same concerns as you and depending on the day, my feeling range from being excited and ready to start to the thought of "what the hell am I doing"? I am also quitting my job to focus on school. One thing that scares me is that I have a REALLY good job right now with excellent pay (I am actually taking a pay cut to go into nursing) and benefits. My husband and I have managed to save quit a bit as we knew I was going to quit to focus on school but sometimes I wonder if I am really making the right decision or if I should put off school another year to make sure we have the finances covered. I have always been interested in medicine and after my last heart surgery (I have had 3 total so far) decided nursing was for me. I know deep down everything will work out but it is nerve wracking. I think once it all gets here and we start things will get better. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress. :)

I almost had an unnecessary procedure performed
I am starting nursing school in the fall and had an experience today that I thought I would share as a reminder to all on how careful one must be with putting results in a patient's chart. I had an OB/GYN appt. back in Sept for a routine pap smear. My doctor called me Thursday to say that my results were abnormal and that he wanted me to come in for a colposcopy. I have had abnormal paps in the past and colposcopies so it didn't really come as a surprise. What did surprise me is that my appt. was back in Sept and they were just now calling me. I know they are a high volume, busy office with 5 doctors totally but to get results 7 months later? I was definitely going to address the issue when I went in for my appt. Well I showed up yesterday for my colposcopy and I am undress waiting in the room. I have had many medical problems in the past and move around alot, so I always get copies of my medical records and keep everything in a binder. I told the nurse I would like a copy of my most recent pap smear. She made me a copy and told me the doctor would be in shortly. When I got up to look at the pap results, I notice the abnormal pap smear belonged to someone else and NOT ME!!! We had the same first and last name spelled differently, different dates of birth, different collection dates and in fact different doctors. When my doctor came in and asked "how I was doing today" I told him he had the wrong patient for his colposcopy today. Needless to say he was extremely angry and I think his whole office got in trouble. I used to work in doctor's offices and I realize how mistakes can be made and that no one is perfect. It was scary to think though that I almost had an invasive procedure for no reason and that no one would have caught it. Plus the poor girl that needs it hasn't even been notified. What also worried me most is that I thought I had gone 7 months with an abnormal pap smear. In the end, no harm was done and I still love my doctor. I just wanted to share my story as a reminder that we always need to take our time and pay attention to details to make sure that mistakes like this don't happen. No one is perfect but please take the time to make sure you have the correct patient.
