Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.
Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.
Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?
I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.
Yes, my comment is related to the school itself, but if you're flexible, you should be just fine. Your education won't suffer unless you allow it to. If you don't get bent out of shape about things and just chill, it'll be all good. Too many people sit and complain which can add to a negative environment. Your interviewer probably said 4 months, not weeks. The program is advertised as 18 months, but it's always been 22 - the 18 months is only the accelerated portion - not counting the traditional semesters. A bit deceiving, I know. You start in August 2011 and end in May 2013.
Your friend is very much correct in what they told you. Things are being looked at and changed around - hopefully for your benefit!

I hope that comment is just related to the application process and not the school itself! lol I have heard from various people (and past CARE students) that they have had problems with how the program is run. I knew this coming in, but I"m pretty flexible and can roll with the punches. One of the student interviewers even mentioned to me that they extended her class by 4 weeks (22 weeks to finished rather than 18!). But the biggest complaint was the class rescheduling due to classroom and teacher scheduling conflicts. My friend who is a current CARE student says that many of the problems may be gone for this incoming class (Fall, 2011) because they had just done a total revamp of the program and they will start having dedicated classroom for the CARE program. So here's to hoping!
