LSUHSC CARE Program Information

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

Thanks cpkrn2b2011..this is my second time applying..hopefully I get in this time(fingers crossed)

hey everyone,

i applied to CARE but submitted my application just before the deadline. i haven't heard about an interview yet.

i called the office today to check in because i am worried that my application might be considered incomplete (i am currently taking my last prerec). the receptionist told me that they are still going through all of the applications to set up interviews. she also said that it is not based on alphabetical order.

good luck to everyone!

My last name starts with an H so I don't think its alphabetical. I think they're probably just moving through the apps as fast as they can.

i got a call on friday from the program bc they had a question about my undergrad transcript. i take it they are def still reviewing apps.

My interview is set for February 12 at 10:30 too!!! Do you think we'll be doing "group interviews"?

I just had my interview. I think it went well...fingers crossed! How are y'all doing?

@ idnevala how long was your interview? mine was kinda short and quick to the point around 15-20 minutes. I tried to prolong it by asking questions but idk. I think I did ok but then again I'm not sure! :smackingf Also did the tell you when acceptance or letters of rejection (in my case) are being mailed out this year (since interviews were so early)? Thanks in advance!

I'm sure every interview group was different, some may just have been less chatty than other groups. Don't take that as a sign that you didn't do well. What time did you interview? I'm sure they had soooo many people to talk to today and they may have felt rushed. I'm sure it was exhausting for them.

I was lucky to get some really nice folks in my interview. I think it went about 30-40 minutes. Now hearing from those students I feel even more positive about the school than I ever have. It sounds like students really study together a lot and that everyone leans on each other. And that when you graduate you'll be really prepared for nursing which is the most important thing.

As for 'when we'll hear', the million dollar question, the website says that we will hear a decision one way or the other by May 30. Oh lord I hope it comes sooner than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose your right. I interviewed around 1:30 and there were some people whose interviews were no more then 15-20 minutes, so I know I'm not the only one. I suppose it could go either way. I just feel like I wasn't specific enough on some questions, but I guess we shall see. .. Three months is a loooonnnggg time! :icon_roll

My interview was about 30 minutes, my interviewers were really chatty and friendly. I'm trying not to stress out about whether I get in or not. I really, really want to be in the next class, but I have done everything that I could and its in their hands. Either way, I hope I find out soon. It seems with the rate this process is taking, that we will find out before May. I submitted my application less than a month ago, let's hope they keep up this pace!

Good luck to you all!! If any one gets any news keep us updated, please!

my interview is for mid-late march so it must be at least 2 months until we hear anything.

I think rubyruby you mentioned that you are currently taking your last prereq. I was under the impression that you had to have all prereqs completed before turing in an application to even be considered. I don't know have they changed their policies?
