LSUHSC CARE Program Information

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

Hey Lili209,

Just wanted to let you know that one of my friends got a call from LSU yesterday and her interview is Feb 12. Looks like they are starting earlier this year. I hope I get my call sometime later this week. Just wanted to pass the info along.

Jschex6 - THANK YOU.

After reading your post I checked my cell voicemails and there it was, a message from LSUHSC calling to set up an interview. If you hadn't posted that I probably wouldn't have listened to my voicemails for a few days - I'm terrible about that. I'm sure you'll be getting a call soon. I bet they have tons of apps to get through.

Good to see they're actually being more proactive this year!

I also applied to the CARE program and the waiting is killing me, too. I didn't get my application in until the first week of January (waiting on a former boss to actually send me a recommendation, instead of just saying it had been sent) , so I'm hoping that doesn't effect anything big.

CARE is definitely my first choice, but I also applied to OLOL's accelerated program at Tulane and Charity, as back-ups.

As for the scheduling questions, when I spoke with the admissions counselor for the program, she said almost exactly what cpkrn said - only the first and last semesters will have "normal" schedules. For all the other blocks, days and times are all fair game and will probably be pretty crazy for some blocks. I'm depending on that being true since I'm getting married the second weekend of September, though I'll be back in class come the Monday morning after. :)

Good luck to everyone who applied and thanks to the folks who are posting as they get interviews scheduled and such. It really helps to know what's going on.

Hey Lili209 - Just curious. What does your last name begin with? I was wondering if they are possibly going in alpha order.

I got my interview :)

Have you heard anything NolaRachel? The wait is killing me too! I also did not get my application in until the last week...so possibly that has something to do with it?

When are the interview dates?

Does anyone know the span of time they are calling for interviews?

Is it true that they interview everyone who meets the minimum qualifications?

Sorry for 20 questions... I am nervous...I really want an interview...and to get in!!:nurse:

I turned in my application in early December so that may have something to do with it. They are suppose to give interviews to everyone who has a completed application package. Right now my interview as well as a friend of mine is Feb 12th but I am sure there are other dates. If you app package was complete I am sure you will get an interview, you just have to be patient. I know that is easier said than done, especially right now. Good Luck :)

Haven't heard anything yet, so I'm guessing they're just working through applications in the order they received them. I think I started mentally freaking out a little when people started posting that they were getting interviews and I've had nary a call. The perspective I'm trying to keep is that I know I put together the absolute best application package I could, so I just need to be patient til they find my envelope, realize I'm exactly the kind of student they need, and pick up the phone to demand I come in for an interview. :lol2:

Hello everyone!!! I also recieved my interview call. My interview is set for the 12th of February at 10:30am.:)

Hey cpkrn2b2011, any idea of how many they are selecting into the program this year?

No, sorry. That's not info that students are privy to. Surely they won't reduce the class size, though. It's been at least 50 for the past several years with the past two classes starting with 56.

Never know if that'll change, though. It's always a possibility.
