LSUHSC CARE Program Information

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

Does any one know if they held any interviews over the phone?

I live in San Francisco and I will be applying for Fall 2010. I was wondering if they do phone interviews or if it will be necessary to fly in.

Thank you in advance.

Well, I offically received my acceptance letter by email. She said they would be mailing the package in the mail. She also emailed me a few forms, medical release etc. to be filled out. I guess I will get my LSU account when they receive my $50.00 acceptance fee. I'm kinda freaking out about trying to get my shot records, oh fun!

Well, looks like I have a lot to do on short notice, so I need to get busy! Please keep me posted and let me know if there is anything of "don't miss" detail . :)

Thanks everyone!

Hey Guys,

Can anyone who was recently accepted for CARE Fall 09 tell me if they will be purchasing the medical insurance through LSU? I'm just curious to know if that will come out of our tuition money or if we are expected to front it before starting?

Also, any suggestions on where to go for the physical, blood tests and immunizations/tb tests they require???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there has applied to the 2009 Fall Care program at LSUHSC?

I recently applied and I am now playing the anxious waiting game to see if I got in! From what I read on here it looks like I could be waiting for sometime!

Anyway, I also wanted to see if any past graduates are current students in the CARE program can give me any advice?? I have a 2 year old daughter, is the program do-able with young children? I understand the face pace, I graduated from LSUHSC in Ophthalmic Medical technology and the program was pretty demanding.. with clinicals and classes at the same time. I'm just worried now that I have a child, and I'm sure there are many others like myself with a family... I'm just looking for a little advice on how you made it through!

I'd love to hear from anyone with advice or anyone who has applied along with me!!

Thank you!:D

Hey I graduated from CARE May 2008 and it is very do-able. While I did not have children, I was married and lived on the Northshore so had to drive daily which really stunk! For the first semester you do traditional classes (anatomy and physiology and labs) along with foundations i believe. The beauty of the program is that you do only one class at a time after the first semester so you can concentrate on just one thing rather than having to learn OB and Peds at once. It makes it much easier. Don't let them scare you. I hardly studied (that's just my nature) and I graduated with roughly a 3.5 gpa. Just study what they give you in class and go with your gut! The biggest lesson I learned was never change your gut answer! Good luck and I hope you got in!!!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I did a search for LSU CARE and this thread was the most recent.

So has anyone been called for an interview? Looking through this thread it seems the interviews last year were in March. It makes me a little nervous that I have not heard anything.

Has anyone heard anything?

I was wondering the same. I haven't heard anything. Anyone else?

I don't have a clue how they're doing things this year but last year I was given a choice of 2 interview dates with one choice being less than 4 days away from when I got the call and the other being 2 weeks out. Things are very often done at the last minute in CARE. My class was the first to even have an interview. Classes before went strictly on GPA. I'm sure they might be working out some kinks there with it only being the second year with an interview requirement. I wouldn't worry too much yet!

Yeah 4 days advance will not work for me considering I have to fly from San Francisco and I would have to rearrange my clients. Half the staff in my office is taking vacation the month of April so I really hope I hear something soon.

cpkrn2b2011 how are things going now that your are well into the accelerated part? Lots of gray hairs yet?

Haha! We had 6 straight weeks of craziness and now we have a schedule lag until April 5. Down time is not good for staying in the study mindset.

Neither have I...but hey guys it's just the 3rd day:-(

They have had your applications since the beginning of February so it is more than the third day unless you are referencing another program.

Many schools take several months to get back to you and I understand that and I am fine with it.

I was only wondering because last year all the interviews were in March. We are now in March and no one has been called for interview. I live over 2,000 miles away so I need notice so that I can reschedule my clients and get a plane ticket. And starting March 25 for 2 weeks no one is allowed any PTO because of a major system launch. Then we have a lot of people on vacation in April. In April I could probably take 2 days off and fly in one morning and out the next afternoon.

Sorry to vent. I don't care how long it takes them to go through the applications. They could do interviews in May or June for all I care. I just need to know in advance because of my work schedule and booking air fare. All the universities I know schedule interviews months in advance as obviously some people need to make flight arrangements. Not everyone lives just down the street.

Hey sorry for the typo I wanted to say it is only the 3rd day in March so maybe we will hear something soon. I feel u on knowing in advance. I'm the same way...I'm so nervous and anxious but let me know if u hear a nything .I have a friend dat is in it now so will ask her when do they start conducting interviews.
