Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.
Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.
Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?
I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.
Hey everyone!
Congrats new classmates! My friend and I will be joining you on June 12 for advising! As someone who has been rejected last year, I can tell you not to give up if you did not get in this year. A year passed by so quickly, and I truly appreciate my acceptance this time around. I look forward to a lot of hard work and sleepless nights! Good luck CARE class of 2011!
hey beejaycee,i tried replying to your private message but it says im not allowed to. supposedly, one has to make 15 posts & then is allowed to send private messages. and im not putting my lsuhsc email acct on display to the public. we'll meet june 12th!
I understand and don't blame you.
I wonder if there is an LSUHSC student directory? I'll have to go look for that later. For now, it's back to studying A&P2 for my final on Friday. Which I no longer need. Talk about hard to keep my eyes open! "Okay, now what does this hormone do again?"
CARE IX:cheers:
This thread has been focused (mostly) on the CARE program which is an accelerated program at LSUHSC for those who already have a degree but want a BSN. Forgive me for making an assumption based on your age but I'm guessing that this would be your first degree. If I'm correct, you might want to start a new thread for your question to increase the odds of getting a response from someone in the non-accelerated BSN program, if this would in fact be your first degree.
If I made an incorrect assumption, please ignore me -- I'm not trying to be mean :trout:, just trying to get you your answer.
Try this thread https://allnurses.com/louisiana-nurses/lsu-bsn-383382.html. they've been discussing the traditional program over there and someone should be able to help you!
Small thread hijack here but it is relevant to this program:
I was looking over a previous class anatomy syllabus (HS2412) and saw a reference to the use of "clickers". Whah-huh? Um, what is a clicker? How is it used? Are there different types? Where do I get one? How much do they cost? What is the fastest land animal? Where did I park my car?
Can you tell that this is a new concept to me! I knew it was all downhill after learning my writing and gazindas back in 3rd grade. (2 gazinda 4 twice, 3 gazinda 9 three times, etc.)

I saw that too and had to look it up. Looks like a method of testing. No worries, I consider myself pretty good with technological "toys" and was also dumbfounded when I read about them.
There's my quickie answer till someone has a definitive one! I watch this thread like crazy (and check my LSUHSC email every day when I know there's nothing there)!

I felt the same way when I was rejected for Purdue's program 5 years ago. They told me everything was fine then I get a letter telling me I didn't have the right classes (stupid me should've pressed them to talk to me more). I was out $75 which really broke the bank for me back then.
I'm sure something revolves around getting those fees but I wouldn't think a school would just tell you to apply so they could get an extra 50 bucks in their multi-million dollar bank accounts.
But, like I said, the quote above is exactly what I was thinking 5 years ago. I don't blame anyone for thinking that.
