Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my Accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.
Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.
Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?
I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.
Ouch, nomoreIT, that is just PAINFUL! There has to be some method to the madness in the way the letters are sent out. I wonder what it is? At least you know it will be headed out tomorrow and you'll have it by Friday.
On another note, when I first found out about the CARE program last fall, I contacted them and forwarded transcripts but was told that I was ineligible to apply because I was missing Microbio and Chemistry! This made me scramble to take those courses online in addition to the 4 classes I was already taking. Again, I wonder why I was told 'no' and you were given a conditional 'ok'?

The only reasons that I can think of as to why they would recommend for some to apply and some not is that they are disorganized. I know a few people who have been through this program and they liked it because it was accelerated, but warned me of its disorganization.
Also, I heard that there was a low number of applicants so maybe at a point they started saying yes just to have more options as backups. I was not told to apply until January, which is close to the deadline and when I asked if I could apply anyway. So if they knew the number of applicants were low they probably wanted more to choose from to insure that the classes were filled with students meeting their standards.
Sad part for us waiters in my boat is that if there are enough qualified applicants (good GPA, experience, Interview etc.) then those of us without the pre-reqs are ruled out. Which is completely fair.
I wonder though if some people currently in the pre-reqs while be accepted contingent upon their final GPA following the completion of this semester?
Well atleast you're getting in touch with them Nomoreit! I keep calling and the lady tells me they will have to have the one in charge call me back with that info. And I get no call! I just like you want to know when it is mailed!!!
As for pre-req's I was almost 100% sure I had every one completed, however I never received any advising. I'm kinda scared now that maybe I missed something. I don't know... just a thought.
I'm going to try and call again... any suggestion on who to talk to?
As, for funny movies.. I rented Yes, Man last night. I'm not sure how funny it is.. I am going to watch it tonight! I'll have to think of some others I've seen.. I'm horrible with titles.
Hoping for the best!!! :)
Thanks for all the info guys!

I would just keep calling, I had left a message for the only lady that could answer my question and did not receive a return phone call so I called again.
This is the number she answers sometimes:
504-568-4197
She was out for a while this morning...........then came back an hour ago. Call her!
She will ask your name and check her stack for your letter.
I promise I am not annoying........but in this case!
O my gosh... I guess they are prob. overwhelmed with calls or something... I just called and the lady answers "LSU nursing" and hangs up! Before I can get a word in! I called back and I get no answer... I'm thinking she's tired of me calling, but o well ... I want answers! It's not fair to put our lives on hold for too much longer. I'm upset!

I know how you feel. They should send them all at one time!
Well, I'm sure you can assume that you are in the same stack as me so it will be mailed tomorrow. She probably is overwhelmed but it is not nice to hang up on people......
I am going to be patient until......Monday.
If its not here by then I will call again!
I cant help it
Ohhhh... Like I said, they are so hating this site right now! LOL!
When I went through my transcripts with them in November/December, they told me NO WAY was I eligible to apply until I had about 6 of my bachelors courses approved by the head of the program. They were all approved but I was also told that all pre-reqs had to be completed before applying (thank God they had been)!
Unfortunately, Delgado wouldn't approve 3/4 of my bachelors, so in order to start at Charity (my 2nd choice), I had a ton of classes to take. At least I hope I can replace some old grades with new Delgado ones! I feel like I've taken 2 years of part time classes for nothing now that LSU is a reality!
Not saying those of you who don't have the pre-reqs completed are "bad," just another example of an inconsistency. I am seriously gunning for all of you here! Keep us updated (like I have to say that)!
P.S.
I am usually not neurotic.....but this is making me nuts!
If I heard letters went out last week at this time and I hadn't gotten mine yet, you couldn't have peeled me off the walls with that nasty stuff people use to remove wallpaper! Imagine a neurotic Spiderman twitching on the ceiling!
:dancgrp:
Oh, YOOO-HOOOO! Current CARE students, are y'all out there? I have a question for any of you who might still check this thread before we all went crazy over the letters:
What happens if we... um... don't do well enough in one class? If we fail to get an acceptable grade in one class does that wash us out of the program or do we have an opportunity to repeat? The schedule seems really tight and I don't know if there is time to retake a class but just in case...

Ok.
I called them again. My letter is still in a stack and has not been mailed. She said those (in that stack) will go out tomorrow.
