LSU Fall 2018 BSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello from California! Thought it was time to create a thread for those applying for LSU's 2018 Fall BSN program. This thread is set up for hopes of meeting (comparing info) with future students, and would love feedback from those that have applied before and or are currently in the LSU BSN program.

Couple of questions:

Where you from (though I am sure most are from the LA area, I am coming from San Diego, military spouse)?

Where are you currently going to school?

Have you taken the HESI yet? If so how was it? Study recommendations?

Are you currently an EMT/CNA/RNA or any other form health provider?

I am personally super excited, beyond nervous, and honestly have my head down working my bum off to get up to this point.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Also I know myself and others would GREATLY appreciate any information (average GPA's, HESI scores, personalities, interview process, essay questions) from current or past students.

Alrighty *fist bump*, we got this!

I have also been invited to take part in the proctor essay at lsu for fall 2018!! What day are you guys going?

Hey Tam! I'm going on the 14th. What about you?

I'll be there on thursday for the 15th!!

Ah dang, I was hoping I'd meet someone there to reduce the anxiety lol. Oh well, I have no idea what to expect for the essay so I'm really anxious. My GPA is above the average (at least a 3.8 and maybe a 4.0 if they use my Calculus grade instead of my College Algebra) and a pretty average HESI (87%). I think my interview was okay so really this essay might make me or break me. I'll let you guys know how the essay is after tomorrow so wish me luck

Yes let us know how it went! Im so nervous!

Okay guys I just took the essay like an hour ago. I'll be frank, the topic really catches you off guard. I have a friend I used to go to high school with and she told me her essay was "why nursing?" and they totally flipped the question on me. Honestly, I would not expect you guys to have the same question because it seems like they change it around and I don't know if they change it around every semester or like between essay sessions. Really the topic is nothing to stress to much about just make sure you have something to say. If you can't remember or recall anything relevant to the topic just make something up as bad as that sounds lol. They said it's not about your answer or what you say; they really just care if you can write since before when students could take the essay home they could proofread it and once they get into the program they realize the student can barely write. So just make sure you can make a competent essay like spelling, grammar, making sense of the topic and staying on topic. I think the most stressful part about it is that I wasn't able to elaborate the way I would have liked to due to the time. It's times new roman, 12 font size, four paragraphs, and double spaced. I talked to another applicant afterwards and she said she only managed to type a page and a half and so did I. I wasn't able to finish my conclusion or finish my last sentence for my last body paragraph. We talked about the curriculum, when we should expect to get our letters, and acceptance statistics and stuff if anyone want me to talk about that too.

Do you know how many applicants apply for BSN? not counting the CARE people and how many students would be accepted? and wow 4 paragraphs alot!!

I don't know how many of the applicants are CARE, I'm assuming the statistic they gave was based off just the Traditional BSN route. They said about 140ish apply and about 10-20 aren't eligible because of prereqs or they didn't meet some of the requirements. They said there isn't a cut off amount they accept but for the past few semester they've accepted 110 students out of the 120-130 that's left. And I don't know if this is before or after people have been wait listed, so that's another thing that can mess with the statistics. Yeah it took me about 5-10 minutes to think of something write and I kind of just went 20 minutes of continuous writing. The way I write is I just type everything that comes to mind and then I make sense of it and make it into an essay. They give you scratch paper to write down your ideas but really it's a waste of time to write on the scratch paper, just outline everything on the document you're typing on. Yeah 4 paragraphs is a good amount when you don't know what the topic is and you have to write in 30 minutes. I don't think they expect you to finish, I think the time limit is there just so they can see how well you can write under limited time and what can you throw out on instinct and without outside assistance. Basically seeing what your own individual writing skills are like before you get into the program. I really don't think my essay was all that good so the only thing I know stands out for me is my GPA and everything else is kinda average.

Okay thanks! Hopefully we get accepted! Also what classification are you right now? Im a sophomore at in college.

Technically I'm a sophomore so I guess I'll be a junior after this semester? I spent a year at LSU in Baton Rouge before doing my prereqs doing Software Engineering so I may a bit more credits than some of the applicants lol. Where are you taking your prereqs right now?

I'm currently at Xavier in louisiana. Also how long did the whole thing went? Like the tour and essay

The tour will probably depend on who you're partnered with since you do the tour in groups and you have like 2-3 seniors guiding it. It was probably 20 minutes I wasn't keeping track. The essay was strictly 30 minutes though so we got out of there around 11.

oh my essay for 11am tomorrow.
