LSU Fall 2018 BSN

Published

Hello from California! Thought it was time to create a thread for those applying for LSU's 2018 Fall BSN program. This thread is set up for hopes of meeting (comparing info) with future students, and would love feedback from those that have applied before and or are currently in the LSU BSN program.

Couple of questions:

Where you from (though I am sure most are from the LA area, I am coming from San Diego, military spouse)?

Where are you currently going to school?

Have you taken the HESI yet? If so how was it? Study recommendations?

Are you currently an EMT/CNA/RNA or any other form health provider?

I am personally super excited, beyond nervous, and honestly have my head down working my bum off to get up to this point.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Also I know myself and others would GREATLY appreciate any information (average GPA's, HESI scores, personalities, interview process, essay questions) from current or past students.

Alrighty *fist bump*, we got this!

I made it in, my roommate and I are looking for 1-2 more roommates if anybody else is.

Congrats to everyone that got accepted! I will be applying this summer for Spring 2019. For those of you that got accepted, would you mind sharing what your gpa and HESI score was? Thanks!

I had a 3.8 pre-req and 3.9 overall and I had an arts and humanities associates degree, but I only got an 83 on my HESI; they say grades overrule HESI by a lot! HESI is more of a if you get over 80 they don't look too into it. But if you are worried about your grades or your HESI; get involved in some volunteer hours in the medical field; if you talk about that during your interview and essay it is definitely a booster.

And I know people who got in with around a 3.5 and similar HESI scores.

Thank you so much. I have about a 3.8 on my 16hrs and 3.5 prereqs gpa. I am planning on retaking English Comp II and and art class in the fall to bring up that 3.5 to at least a 3.7 gpa. I will be taking the HESI next month. I've taken it before for another school and made an 89% overall for all sections but chemistry included. I know each application cycle is different but just wanted to see what the numbers were for the current application cycle just to give me an idea where I stand. Once again, thank you!

If they used my calculus grade then my prereq GPA should be a 4.0 and my overall also 4.0. If not then it was probably like 3.8 and my HESI was an 88%. I also recommend volunteering since it helps you talk about the interview and essay.

So, our HESI also had chemistry; I am not sure that you could not transfer yours over if it is the exact same sections. Honestly I know somebody with a 4.0 and 93 on his HESI that did not get in, they look at more than grades, so don't stress that. I also know people with possibly a little lower with a 3.5 who did get in. They are looking at your grades, but also things such as what you are involved in, your personality, and why you chose nursing.

They said at the information session that a 3.5 should be your goal if you're trying to be competitive. I honestly think the hardest part is the interview, they really want to see your mindset and if you really want to be in the program and want to be a nurse. The GPA, HESI, and even the essay are just ways for them to measure your knowledge. I do recommend you go to the information session or at least participate in the webinar session. I went to two information sessions and participated in one webinar and it helped a lot.

Hey guys! Congrats on getting in! So happy proud for you! I just moved to Louisiana last month, and will be applying for the Spring semester. I have a question, did you guys apply for only LSU? Or Delgado as well? I will be applying for both programs and am a little confused with how I can make sure that I take the HESI with all the correct subjects to fulfill both schools needs. Let me know if you have any insight, or hell, if you would like to meet up for some java (totally on me) and give me the low down on how the application process went for you :)

Hey theknittynurse! Haven't heard from you in a while. I only applied to LSU as of now but I did plan to apply to Delgado too. I might still apply to Delgado's spring in case I fail out of LSU lol.

I hand delivered my acceptance fee on the 10th they still haven't cashed the check. Anyone else in the same boat?

I only applied to LSU but looked into delgado. When you sign up for the hesi you use the school code so you don't actually pic the sections. I think delgado has anatomy section on the hesi and LSU does not.
