LSU BSN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hi everybody,

Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.

"The HESI exam must be taken on or before the following dates:

Fall admission: January 15

Spring admission: August 15"

That's the direct quote from the LSUHSC website. So to me that means you can take it on the 15th and it'll still be on time. I think that after you take the HESI, the company who conducts the exam will send it to the school of your choice. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, that's just how I read it.

Wow! Your response was super quick! =) I'm gonna ride it out on a wing and a prayer and hope I have access to the Hesi scores to turn in with the Jan.15th application. At least this gives me a little more time to study for the Hesi. I was kind of freaking out trying to studying for finals and then taking the Hesi a week later! After flip flopping on the different nursing programs in the New Orleans area I finally put all of my eggs into the LSU basket! Crossing my fingers! My pre-req GPA is a 4.0 but I think I will be getting a B in chemistry this semester, and my cumulative has 2 C's on it (whoops) darn math classes. Still feeling totally hopeful.

Hi y'all! I'm also applying in for Fall 2012!!!

I'm so nervous because I've read thru some of this thread and I noticed people saying they didn't get in because they were still in the process of take a few prereqs. When I apply I will still have Micro and Socio to take in the spring semester... how bad do you think this will hurt my chances? I have a 3.4 prereq gpa otherwise and I'm taking the HESI next week.

Also would anyone that has gotten in in the last few semesters mind posting their gpa/ HESI/ prereq situation so I could get a feel for what I'm up against?

Thanks so much!!

I still have to take micro, fine art, and a humanity! After that I have completed everything they have asked for. What in the heck would I do with a whole summer off and a fall semester if I was pushed into the Jan 2013 class. I guess I can take basket weaving!! (kidding) =)

hey all its been a while since i been on here. congrats to the spring 2012 class for their acceptance. let me tell you a few words of advice. nursing school is hard work! physiology will be your hardest class hands down not because you dont know the info but because the questions require you to think more critically then before. Anatomy was not bad but the spring teacher is more difficult then the guy we had this semester. Intro is just boring and tedious. anyways for phys READ THE BOOK! for anatomy make sure you GO TO LAB when your studying. I guarentee that if you put in the work you will be successful. however LSU health is NOT a party school so if your coming from LSU it is a culture shock because the enviroment is not the same. make sure that you understand that you will be studying MOST of the time and it helps to have a study partner. anyways good luck everyone its not impossible. I passed my first semester on the first try!

Congrats to the Spring 2012 class!!!! When do yall have your pre-advising sessions???? I am more than happy to answer any questions that you all have for the upcoming semester! Just let me know!

I have a question for any present students. I'm afraid to ask the school because I don't want them to think I'm trying to get around any kind of drug screening... but are we drug tested before starting school? I'm not a drug user! But if so, I'd like to see if I can get it done for free at the clinic I work at presently.

Thanks!

No drug test before you start school but you do need to have one done before clinicals start in your second semester! I chose to get mine done during the first few weeks of soph I semester just to get it over with!

Thanks for the quick reply! Will we have to pay for it then?

And one more question! My roommate is in nursing school and they are required to have a smart phone to download specific apps and communication for the school. Do you reccommend I upgrade to one?

Yes to paying for the drug test. As far as a smart phone goes, there aren't any apps or anything that you're required to have. It's up to you. The reason I like having my smart phone is because LSU monitors your Internet usage when you're on their wifi and you are not allowed on some websites. If I didn't have my iPhone I'd be bored to death during breaks haha.

Kleinlg~ are we required to carry our on insurance once we start clinicals? I cannot recall seeing anything about this subject. I did however, read about such a topic when I looked into the Delgado program. Also, did you have any pre-reqs left to finish when you applied? Thanks for offering up advice! :)

Oh also, what is your schedule like? What is a typical week for you, with school classes and clinicals? 8-5? I'm sure it varies for a lot of people just trying to get an idea.
