LSU BSN

Published

Hi everybody,

Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.

Sarjan1: to answer your question, I have a degree in mass communications from LSU already.

I'm nervous, though, because I don't know if the nursing school only accepts residents of the state first and foremost and I am not a resident.

I completed my degree at LSU, and I know they give preference to those of us coming from the LSU system, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if they accept residents over nonresidents first?

It's casual..? heh. I just bought a suit the other day. I wonder if I should still wear it. I guess you cant make a bad impression being overdressed but I don't want to seem out of place..

I'm not in the traditional program (I'm in CARE), but I know numerous people from other states and other countries in BOTH programs. Lots of people from Mississippi and Texas :). And, while the majority of the traditional class we started with back in August '09 came straight from LSU, I'm almost positive there's no preference. Many of that class who didn't come from LSU took their pre-reqs at Delgado, BRCC, or OLOL. I was also surprised at the number of people who already had a degree and chose not to go accelerated, so you won't be alone there. Not everyone had degrees from LSU, either. Heck, CARE is incredibly competitive. I didn't get my degree within 2000 miles of here, was a resident of a state just as far away, and did my pre reqs at Delgado. There was definitely no preference toward LSU if I got in, especially with the number of applicants for the number of spots the year I started. I didn't have an outstanding GPA, either.

I wouldn't worry in the least about them making any preferences other than the total score of your GPA, interview, and application. Believe me when I say they don't play games up in this place :jester:

was the interview kinda laid back? and what did the majority of the people that were going for an interview wear?

Hi, I was wandering if the interview was kinda laid back? how did the majority dress?

thanks,

Just nervous and anxious about mine!

I have a degree in Sociology from UNO.

im ready to get the interview over with. i think its gonna be pretty laid back and easy. I asked one girl about the interview and she said they just started this. i dont know if that meant this is the first time or if they started a few semesters back she didnt clarify. does anyone know how they judge you on the interview?

I wore black pants and a blue button down blouse with simple, matching jewelry and plain black heels. There were guys and gals in suits and some dressed terribly - jeans, too tight clothes, huge jewelry, skin showing where it shouldn't be, and stuff you'd see when you go out to a club. As long as you're neat in appearance, I wouldn't worry. Y'all sound like you know what's appropriate for a job interview and that's what you need to wear! My interview was extremely laid back. They know you're nervous. I tripped up on my answers quite a bit. They just laughed and gave me time to compose myself.

The traditional class that just started was the first traditional class to actually have an interview. You guys are the 2nd class to have an interview. I was there on interview day and saw everything from guys and gals in suits to a girl in shiny spandex and 5 inch strappy heels (I'm guessing she didn't get in, though :D). They want to see how you present yourself. I think they're tired of letting people in who look good on paper only for them to show up for school with a not-so-professional appearance. There are some people with a very extreme sort of style around here right now.

Good luck.

The first class that had interviews was last year right? Did ya'll have to write an essay during the interview? Thanks!

thank you so much cpkrn2b2011 for the info!!! you have put my mind to ease alittle bit!! :-)

The first traditional class that had interviews is the class that just started in August. An essay during the interview? Surely not. I think that would take up way too much time. I didn't do anything except chat with a faculty member and 2 graduating students for about 15 minutes.

you rock CP, thanks! :yeah:
