LS 3 and FCCA/CPNE

Published

Hi All,

Just passed LS 3 this week!! Made a B, this was my second attempt. I was sooooooo nervous:uhoh3: Now I have my emails from Excelsior that says I am FCCA and CPNE eligible :o!!!! Now I am kinda nervous again, I have heard the FCCA is pass or fail, well what if you fail, do you get a do over??? I also wanted to ask about the CPNE, how long are you with your assigned pt, are they yours for a shift, or just a few minutes ? I was reading someones recent CPNE story and it seemed as if she had them for a few minutes, do an assessment do the careplan and then done? Thinking about doing Sheri Taylors workshop this summer. Where can I get the wound kit I see mentioned?

Thanks,

China

Congrats!! I am taking LS3 next week and I still have to take Transitions shortly there after. There is a large group that are getting ready for the CPNE here, and I am sure they will be along to help you shortly!

Congrats China!!!! Welcome to our CPNE club :-)

The FCCA according to my advisor is geared with the intent that you pass, infact she said you'd have to TRY to fail it, because it has a 95% pass rate. I assume that if you don't pass you can retake it again, but I think you will do just fine :-)

The CPNE gives you a minimum of three patients, a maximum of five, as you can repeat up to one adult and one child. Each PCS (Patient care scenario) has a time limit of two and a half hours unless you have extenuating circumstances (like the patient is in surgery for 2 hours) and at that point the CE can grant you more time. You are responsible for doing the areas assigned to you by the CE on your Kardex which can include things like Abdominal assessments, Neuro assessments, etc. as well as Overriding areas of care which are mandatory for each patient such as vital signs and comfort. You are required to formulate a care plan with two priority diagnoses and two measurable interventions. Believe me, I am just in the beginning stages of studying for the CPNE and it's barely starting to make some sense to me. We'll get there!! :-)

I am doing Sheri's online workshop and also Rob's CPNE DVDs. I am getting a skills kit from a student who recently passed the CPNE. You can purchase one from EC, they sell from an outside company and they have different packages including a wound, injection pad, etc., you can check on Ebay or you can also check the EPN, people who pass post skill kits and materials all the time.

Good luck w/your studies! Where are you applying?

Thanks everyone!! :yeah: I'm thinking of applying to Naples and Georgia.

Take care,

For the CPNE, do you find out right away if you pass or fail or do you have to wait?

You find out right away. But while they're reviewing your documentation, it sure does feel like eternity! LOL. But really, you find out after each lab station and each PCS.

Taking the CPNE in Naples this weekend for the first and (hopefully) last time. I'm so nervous about failing!!!!

How exciting!!! How long have they had a site at Naples?? I'm in Florida also and would really prefer to go to Naples. Easy drive down. How long have you been studying for the CPNE? What did you use to study? Please keep me posted on how it goes. I am sure you will do just fine. How long did you have to wait for a date there?

Take care,

China

Good luck Tania- keep us posted, when did you apply for CPNE? did you do any worshop?
