LPN training costs

This seems to be the best site for nursing info. It is terrific!

I am currently trying to enroll in an LPN program in the West Central FL location. There just doesn't seem to be openings until August 2003, and 2004. Meanwhile I am taking pre-reqs for RN in the meantime. I am also studying to take NET for the Aug. 2003. If I pass, I still don't even know if I will be eligible to get in depending on waiting list. This is very frustrating that you have to wait 1-2 years just to get in a nursing program. No wonder there is such a shortage!

I did find one school offering classes starting this Nov. across the bay. When I called for info, I was told that cost of tuition is $11,400 for a 12-mo program. Can this be correct? How can one program offer training for 2,300 (14 mos.) and another for $11,400. I am not eligible for govt. assistance and cannot justify applying for a loan at that cost.

Please someone give me some advice on what to do??

It is true, some programs are more expensive than others and I don't know why.

I would have suggested going with the quickest program IF you were able to get grants or free money, but you indicated not being able to qualify for that assistance.

It is a good idea to work on the RN pre-req's if that is your goal someday. Apply to a program that works within your budget.

Sorry I can't be of much help. I know someone who is going to one of these private company programs and is paying plenty also. Supply, demand, profit. I think they play off the fact that people are willing to pay to get into a program and finish instead of waiting for the reasonably priced education at a community college.
