I'm a licensed practical nurse of 16 years. A few years ago I decided to go further and get my associates in nursing. The first time around I failed med-surg II, but I was allowed to re-enter. The second time around, "you guessed it, I failed med-surg again. Now, I am unable to enter any nursing program at any school to finish. To think I was only one semester away from finishing. Can anyone answer this any advice and information will be helpful.

Well, no advice...
I guess most schools figure you had your chance so time to make way for other students who want a chance. I dont mean to be harsh...my thing is that there are soooooo many people on crazy wait lists that would give thier left arm for a chance to study nursing. I feel like the only way schools right now can regulate things is by having some of these guidelines. I dont mean to be harsh. But I dont think there is a way out of your delimma. There are lots of us who have high GPA's (I have a 3.44 and 69 credit hours of undergraduate work and have had a horrible time trying to get into a program), and work really hard to pull A's, and still struggle to get into programs. I just dont have much sympathy for those people who have had their chance and have sadly let it pass them by.
Someday I plan to teach nursing and I will be the first person to enforce these kinds of rules. I think two tries is very generous. I wouldnt want a nurse caring for me who flunked out of school.
Please forgive me if you think I am being mean!!!!!!!! I think you probably have found your niche as an LPN and should stick with it. Be the best nurse you can be where you are and be thankful you got into LPN school--lots of people would love to be in your shoes! :)
Best wishes!

Don't give up. If you really want it, it CAN be done. Try other schools or online programs. And keep studying your text books as you search. Good luck!

I am really sorry to hear that this happened to you. Now, are you sure that you can't enter ANY nursing school? From what I hear, people would have to start from scratch, because nursing credits are not transferable. I had a friend do that. She failed med-surg 1 twice, and she then went to a different school and (according to her), did well. She did have to start the whole nursing curriculum over again, but they accepted her pre-requisites. Maybe look into on line study at Excelsior. I do believe in my heart that if it is meant to be, it will be, and don't give up your dream until you have searched all of your options.

First off, you need to look at the reasons why you failed 2 med surg courses and come up with a plan for remediation. Only then, should you reconsider trying to advance to RN role by attempting another program.
AS LPN for 5 years before BSN, realized what Id didn't know as LPN was huge...can only cram in so much info in one year....still learning as RN 24 years later.
