I'm a 27 year old male nurse. IM AN LPN and have been since August. 15th 2007. I decided my junior year of high school that I wanted to b a nurse when my grandma was in ICU. My senior year of high school I did votech classes of health occupations and became a CNA then when I graduated high school went straight into the LPN program. My goal is to become an RN working in the ICU. Nursing for me so far has been a real challenging experience at times but its starting to get better now that I've learned to have tougher skin. First a lot of patients and patients family members coworkers and supervisors immediately upon first meeting me had already decided that I was way too young for one I was a male nurse for two I was just an LPN and not a real nurse a professional RN and 4 I'm gay so I'm a young male gay LPN nurse and I can't seriously know anything or be able to take care of someone sick and in need of nursing care. I've had to work very hard to prove myself as a excellent nurse and gain my patients coworkers and supervisors trust and respect. I'm also tired of being told I'm not a real nurse or that I'm not a nurse period. I'm also tired of being asked if working as an lpn has ever caused me to want to go to nursing school some day and I didn't go to Nursing. School I went to the LPN program at the votech. ***** And its usually brand new RNs fresh out of school who r very young and very ignorant that make those remarks. I don't think they would feel very good after feeling very proud of themselves snd happy that they made it snd graduated passsed boards and r now RNs to have me ask them when they r going to nursing school to become a real nurse and get their BSN MSN now that they completed their training in a hospital program or community college or votech. Anyways now that you all have read this novel I've written.....I'm wanting to bridge over to my RN BSN. I have no clue at all how to go about getting it started and going and making it happen....can someone who has already bridged over explain to me step by step how they went about making it happen please I'm desperately wanting to begin class ASAP. THANK U

Well your direction is all up to you :) first let me say do not let others make you feel any way. The only people who matter are those who's opinions are important to you! Next I have not graduated yet but I am May 16th 2014. If you want to bridge look at schools in your area that offer that program or look at online programs. The RN program I attend has lpns that join at 2nd or 3rd semester. We had 5 males in our class and every cohort has about the same amount. So research a school that fits you is important but I feel only you can do it. I drive almost 2 hours to school and have been doing that for years. There were schools closer but there were certain things I wanted from my school. I know I have not answered your question but maybe if you can narrow down your schools you are interested in it may be easier for someone to give you advice :) I wish you luck!
