Howdy!
So by some twist of fate, or bizarre planetary alignment, I am actually starting the Practical Nursing (LPN) program in August at the local CC. I've been knocking off pre-requisites for the past year and a half, and am feeling somewhat guilty and my brain somewhat "under-utilized" by not taking any classes this Summer prior to entering the program.
So my question to you is, if you had 3 months to spend preparing for LPN school, what would you do? I am referring to book studying, and NOT job shadowing. I currently work as an ED CNA, so I get to see my share on the job...I am referring to knowlege prep of the book-learnin' kind.
What would it be? NCLEX prep? Drug knowlege? Case studies?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I'm an LPN and went into that program with no prior medical experience. I did no prep and did just fine in the program.
I'm going into the RN program in Aug, the only prep I'm doing is my job as an LPN.
Enjoy your freedom while you have it now, in a few months there will be little time for lounging.

Learning the basics of nursing might be a good idea. I have included some weblinks below for you that you may want to click on and read, because you may find them helpful. They are Nursing Fundamentals multimedia lessons specifically designed for practical nursing students in an LPN program. You can browse through them when you get some free time. Hopefully, they will place you ahead of the game in terms of knowledge base. Good luck to you!

I am currently in the LPN program at the Adult center for education where I reside and I have previously been a STNA. Your knowledge will get you through the first term no prob. Enjoy your summer because while you are in the class sun is the last thing you will see. Soak up all the Vitamin D you can now. Congrats on getting in the program.

hey, i'm a student with about 10 males and 110 females in my class. i also was a pt for 7 days in a hospital after i had surgery 2y ago. in that week two of my nurses were rpns and men. from what i have heard men are in higher demand because they can do more physically then a women (on average). i don't think you would have a big problem if you wanted to go into psych.
