LPN to RN Transition

I will be starting the LPN to RN transition program next week and am so nervous, yet excited in one. Any suggestions on things to make my transition "easier"? :uhoh3:

Study when you can and don't fall behind in the readings. At first, the information is repetitive, because you're already a nurse. But sometimes the emphasis on certain things we learn in RN school are things not focused on in LPN school.

Good luck!

I was told by a teacher over the summer that I needed to quit thinking like an LPN and start thinking like an RN. Hard when you've been working for several years to stop that train of thought and look outside the box. I'm really enjoying school overall--hope you have the same experience.

I am starting tomorrow and am very nervous also. They mailed me my first assignment and expect it to be finished at beginning of class. I have already found out that I don't have all the books that I am suppose to have because they are referring to books that were dispersed during the first year of RN. Now I transition in not knowing what they even talked about during the first year. Already stressed and frustrated and class hasn't even begun!!!

I am going to be applying to a LPN to RN bridge program in May and I am so nervous that I will not feel prepared when I join with the traditional RN who have had a whole year of NS. Could you please give us an update on your experience and what you would recommended to new LPN to RN students. BY THE WAY if there is anyone out there who has gone trough the bridge program please join the thread!:D

I am only halfway through the transition course, so I'm not sure how much I can help... but so far, the last 8 weeks focused on the differences between the roles of LPN and RN and a lot of theory. We also learned and tested out on RN skills such as IVP meds, central lines, hanging blood and in-depth assessments in lab. This week we began med/surg I for LPNs. For the rest of this semester, the focus is entirely on Fluid/Electrolytes/IV therapy, Diabetes/Renal, and Oncology. Then in the fall, we will join the 2nd year RN students in OB/Peds/Psych. I'm very nervous to join them!

Kararipley,

Thank you so much for this information!:lol2: Do you have clinical as well or is it just Lecture and Lab?

The first 8 weeks was only lecture and lab... this second 8 weeks is only lecture and clinical. So only 2 days a week, it's nice! This is at a CC in Cleveland.
