Who's an LPN going after their ADN?

I'm so excited that I'm starting in August. I'll be attending Pensacola Junior College. I was going to go back immediately after LPN school...but, you know how things go.

Specializes in ER (My favorite), NICU, Hospice.

I am an LPN enrolled in the LPN to RN bridge program. I'll be finished May 2006. We go one night a week and have clinicals one weekend a month. That is why it takes so long.

mhull, it might take longer but it doesn't seem very stressful. Is it?

In the fall, we will go on Thurs for 2 hours and Fri for 6. Then in Jan..we start with the regular RN students in Nursing Process 3.

It is great.....I have never thought I would enjoy school this much.

Can I join? I'm going for my BSN...but that's still a RN! :)

I'm one of those freaks that loves school. :uhoh3: I don't think I'm ever going to quit. Even after I reach whatever end in nursing that I want, I'm going after some other degrees. Maybe micro, bio, or math. Dunno yet.

Sure, Julie, the more the merrier. Are you already in a program somewhere? How far do you have?

I will begin my nursing classes in August (oh my ~ next month!) and I will graduate in May of 2007!

I can relate to being excited....since I discovered that I CAN do this, I've been pitiful... taking classes sine 1999.....not done yet!

I'm not as familiar with BSN...yours is 3 years? Is that normal? I thought that 2 was (along with 2 years of pre-reqs).

I have a good amount of my pre-reqs finished, and the actual nursing courses begin this fall. It is 2 yrs pre-reqs and 2 yrs nursing courses, but you actually have to be accepted into the program before nursing courses can be taken.

Meaning that GPA must be kept high. Nusing GPA must be above a 3.0 and cumulative GPA (all other courses) must be above a 2.7.

I hope that made some sense.... (I'm not even sure it does for me!)LOL!

I gotcha. I was thinking you meant that the actual nursing classes were 3 years.

I almost have all the pre-reqs that I need for my BSN (I'm about 3-4 shy) and would love to go that route. Unfortunately, I don't have the time for it now. It's only a year for my ADN (as you know). My family depends on me to make the good income.

I'm just ready to be an RN. I want to get into either emergency medicine or operating room, something that I haven't done. I don't have many opportunities to do that now. I'm kind of bored with just passing pills....don't get me wrong I love my clients (I work with the mentally retarded). I just want to do something different and learn. Know what I mean?

What field are you interested in?

Specializes in private duty/home health, med/surg.

My school has 4 semesters of nursing, and after the 2nd semester you can take the NCLEX-PN. I didn't bother until after the 3rd semester because that was when summer vacation was (my CC doesn't do nsg school during the summer). So now I'm a private duty LPN waiting for my final semester to finish my ADN.

I would like to go into the operating room too. I want to DO something instead of being 70 yrs old when I retire having to show a lifetime of pushing a med cart up and down a hallway and referee-ing arguementative CNA's. :uhoh3: (Sorry ~a bit of job disatisfaction coming through!)

I am also the main breadwinner in this family, but since I am already 41, it seemed like a good idea to buckle tight for another year and have the extra benefits down the road. (In case I can't do floor nursing as I age, I can still work and do something behind a desk maybe!)

Just hope and pray I can make it work! :imbar
